UTC?s Johnson Named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga sophomore Jared Johnson has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Dec. 17-23. The selection is made by the league office.

Johnson went 1-0 in the Mocs’ only action last week, downing No. 18 Jacob Henderson in Chattanooga’s 25-12 loss to No. 22 Old Dominion on Saturday.

Johnson, a heavyweight from Jefferson City, Mo., rode out Henderson in the second period before scoring a third-period escape to grab 2-0 win over his ranked opponent. The win was Johnson’s third in a row and tied the match at 9 after five bouts.

Chattanooga is back in action when it hosts the Defense Soap & Flips Southern Scuffle at McKenzie Arena on Jan. 1-2.

Also nominated: Dominic Parisi (Appalachian State), Aaron Walker (The Citadel) and Scott Patrick (Davidson).
