GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman goalkeeper Sven Lissek was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America Third Team and teammate Eric Steber joined Lissek on the NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Team, it was announced on Wednesday.
Lissek, a native of Sewau, Germany, posted a 0.59 goals against average and 12 shutouts in 21 starts this past season to earn NSCAA Scholar All-American and Scholar All-South Region First Team honors. The junior and All-Southern Conference choice made two saves in a penalty-kick shootout to lead Furman past UAB in the opening round of the NCAA tournament and posted a second-round shutout of nationally ranked Washington before the Huskies advanced on penalty kicks. Lissek’s 12 shutouts established a new Furman and SoCon single-season record. He was named to the NSCAA All-South Region Second Team for the second straight year earlier this month.
Steber earned NSCAA Scholar All-South Second Team honors after playing in all 22 matches for the Paladins this season. The senior totaled two assists and helped lead a Furman defense that produced 12 shutouts and allowed only 14 goals in 22 matches.
