OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has tabbed Furman sophomore Ashton Gregory as an All-American Honorable Mention award recipient, the organization announced Wednesday. The nod makes Gregory the first player in Furman volleyball history to be named an AVCA All-American.
The 2014 Southern Conference Player of the Year turned in an outstanding sophomore season, leading the Paladins to a 23-7 record, 14-2 Southern Conference record and first regular-season league title since 2009. The Yadkinville, N.C. native was named to the All-Tournament Team in every tournament the Paladins competed in in 2014, as well as being named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week on four occasions (most by any player in the league in ’14) and the SoCon Volleyball Player of the Month for November.
Gregory led the Paladins in kills (397), hitting percentage (.374) and blocks (155), en route to being named the SoCon Player of the Year. She leads the country in solo blocks (53), ranks in the Top-10 in Furman single-season history in three categories and ranks in the Top-10 in Furman career history in two categories.
Gregory earned AVCA All-East Coast Region honors at the beginning of the month, which automatically qualified her for All-America honors.
