SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson 149-pounder Kevin Birmingham has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Nov. 1-4. The selection is made by the league office.

Birmingham went 3-0 during the opening weekend of the season, earning pins in all three bouts. He helped the Wildcats to a 2-1 team mark, as Davidson topped Alderson-Broaddus (31-9) and Johns Hopkins (47-6) and fell to Maryland (36-9) at the Terrapin Duals on Sunday.

Birmingham opened his season with a pin of Alderson-Broaddus’ Jason West in just 2:46 and followed that up with a fall over Maryland’s Ben Dorsay in 6:48. The senior from Sicklerville, N.J., close things out by sticking Johns Hopkins’ Tommy Grifa to complete his perfect weekend.

The weekly award is the second of Birmingham’s career, as he also took the honor on Jan. 15 of last season.

Davidson (2-1) returns to action Friday when it hosts Belmont Abbey at Belk Arena at 7 p.m.

Also nominated: Ville Heino (Campbell), Justin Kozera (Gardner-Webb) and Shabaka Johns (VMI).
