SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2014 NCAA FCS bracket was announced Sunday morning (Nov. 23) and Southern Conference champion Chattanooga earned a berth in the 24-team field. The Mocs earned the No. 8 national seed and will host a game Saturday, Dec. 6.
Chattanooga (9-3, 7-0 SoCon) earned a bye to the second round and will face either Eastern Kentucky or Indiana State. The Colonels and Sycamores will square off Nov. 29 with the winner advancing to face UTC December 6 at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN3. Chattanooga enters the postseason as one of the hottest teams in FCS as the Mocs have won their last six games and their last nine games against FCS competition. The Mocs are making their second appearance in the FCS playoffs, and their first since 1984 when UTC lost to Arkansas State.
New Hampshire earned the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs, while three-time champion North Dakota State was seeded second. Jacksonville State earned the No. 3 seed with Eastern Washington slotted fourth. Illinois State garnered the No. 5 seed with Villanova tabbed sixth. Coastal Carolina was seeded seventh. All eight national seeds earned a bye to the round of 16.
Southern Conference teams are 100-63 (.613) in the NCAA playoffs, the best mark among FCS Conferences.
The FCS National Championship game will be held January 10, 2015 in Frisco, Texas.
