• Chattanooga has clinched the 2014 Southern Conference championship and has earned the league’s automatic bid to the FCS playoffs.

• Home teams are 13-9 in conference play this season after going 21-15 last year.

• Eight of the 22 league games this season have been decided by one possession. Sixteen of the SoCon’s 36 league games were decided by one possession last year.

• Furman quarterback P.J. Blazejowski set a new school record with 382 yards of total offense in the Paladins’ overtime loss at The Citadel.  The freshman signal caller, making just his fifth start, also accounted for four touchdowns including two scores on the ground.

• Western Carolina plays host to VMI Saturday. The Catamounts are already assured of a winning record in league play for the first time since 2005 and are looking for their seventh overall win for the first time since 2001.

• The Chattanooga Mocs are ranked in both major FCS polls this week.
UTC is ranked ninth by both the FCS coaches and the Sports Network.
• Samford, Western Carolina and Wofford are among the teams receiving votes.

• The Southern Conference has one player on the Walter Payton Award Watch List, while two are currently on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. Five SoCon players were named to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List. The Payton Award is presented annually to the most outstanding player at the FCS level, while the Buchanan honors the nation’s top defensive player in FCS. The Rice Award is given to the nation’s top freshman.
