Citadel freshman Buckiso wins 141 crown at The Citadel Open
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Citadel freshman Ty Buckiso, who wrestled unattached in the 141-pound classification, captured first place at The Citadel Open with a victory over unattached Lucas Stewart, who attends Campbell. Buckiso was one of three members of The Citadel wrestling team, along with Nate Harper (141) and Joe Bexley (heavyweight) to earn top-four finishes on Saturday.
Buckiso was joined among the top 141-pound finishers by Bulldog teammate Harper, who brought home fourth after suffering a 15-9 setback to Kevin Thompson (Coker).
Bexley, also competing unattached in the event, placed third with a 9-6 defeat of Cody Davis (unattached), who attends King University.
NC State, who had Kevin Jack (149) and Tommy Gantt (165) competing in the event unattached, captured two first-place finishes, the most of any school at the event. Meanwhile, Southern Conference rival Campbell had the most top-four finishers (five) of any participating school. Among those representing the Camels included Nathan Kraisser (133, 1st); Tyler Walker (133, 3rd); Lucas Stewart (141, 2nd); Grant Blumenthal (157, 3rd) and John Weiss (165, 4th).
The Bulldogs trek to Blacksburg, Va., next weekend to compete in the Hokie Open before returning for a dual meet with Anderson on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.
Buffalo 46, Campbell 6
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell dropped its season opening match Saturday morning, falling to Buffalo 46-6.
Senior Daniel Luty took the mat first for the Camels against Buffalo's Alex Smythe in the 157-pound match; Luty took the decision, 3-0, giving Campbell its first individual match win of the day.
Sophomore Ville Heino competed in the 184 match with Buffalo's Austin Weigel, claiming the Camels' second victory of the match by a 3-0 decision.
Campbell will be back in action Nov. 9 at the Hokie Open in Salem, Va. The Camels will host their next home match Jan. 16 against VMI.
