SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG keeper William Pyle has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5. The selection is made by the league office.

Pyle went 1-0-1 with a shutout in goal for the Spartans in a pair of double-overtime matches last week, blanking No. 24 Furman in a scoreless draw on Sept. 30 before picking up a 2-1 win over defending SoCon regular-season champion Wofford on Saturday.

On the road against the Paladins, Pyle made seven saves for his first career shutout. The Charlotte, N.C., freshman followed that up with a career-high 10 saves against the Terriers.

For the week, Pyle played 212 minutes in goal, turning in 17 saves and a 0.42 goals against average. The rookie has made four straight starts for the Spartans (1-7-2, 1-0-1 SoCon).

UNCG returns to action Tuesday at league-leading Mercer (6-4-0, 2-0-0 SoCon) at 7 p.m.
