Mercer?s Bagrou Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer forward Will Bagrou has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Oct. 20-26. The selection is made by the league office.

Bagrou had a hand in all six of the Bears’ goals last week, scoring five and assisting on the other as Mercer went 2-0 with wins over Wofford and VMI.

The freshman from Dacula, Ga., scored in the 69th minute and assisted on the tying score in the 81st on Oct. 21 against Wofford before notching the game-winner in overtime. Bagrou’s 98th-minute score gave Mercer the 3-2 victory in a battle of the top two teams in the SoCon standings.

Bagrou followed that up with a hat trick Saturday against VMI, accounting for all of the Bears’ offense in the 3-0 win. He scored in the seventh, 24th and 56th minutes. The hat trick was the first of Bagrou’s career.

Bagrou’s honor is his second in the last three weeks, as he was also the league’s player of the week on Oct. 14.

Mercer (11-5-0, 7-1-0 SoCon) returns to action at Furman (8-4-3, 4-3-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a contest that will appear on the SoCon Digital Network. Each squad has won three straight matches.
