ETSU's Hirko, Furman's Hurt Named Runners of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Katie Hirko and Furman’s Tripp Hurt have been named Southern Conference Women’s and Men’s Runner of the Week, respectively, for competitions of October 17-18, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Both Hirko and Hurt received the weekly honor for the second time this season. Hirko garnered the honor on September 24, while Hurt took the award on October 1.

Hirko won the Catamount Invitational on Friday and led the Bucs to a first-place team finish on the women’s side. The junior from Oley, Pa. recorded a time of 18:21.96 in the women’s 5K event. It was the second straight for Hirko, who also claimed the top spot at the Spartan Invitational on September 26.

Hurt finished 41st at the pre-NCAA meet to lead the Paladins to a fourth-place team finish. The senior recorded a time of 24:56.8 in the 8K event. The native of Bogart, Ga. helped Furman finish ahead of several ranked teams while coming in behind top-ranked Colorado and second-ranked Oregon.
