Wofford finishes third at Terrier Intercollegiate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women’s golf team finished third at the fourth annual Terrier Intercollegiate on Tuesday at The Country Club of Spartanburg.

Junior Emiley Pagrabs led all Terriers with a career-best finish of fifth place at 11-over-par 155. Pagrabs opened her tournament with a 3-over 75 on Monday and wrapped it up with an 8-over 80. Her two-round, 11-over total is also a collegiate best.

Wofford went into the final round of the 36-hole tournament with an eight-shot lead over Appalachian State, Winthrop and Gardner-Webb. However, it was Seminole State College that came away with the victory. The Raiders erased a 21-stroke deficit with a final round 6-over-par 294 to take the trophy by a single stroke at 46-over 622. The 294 was a 34-stroke improvement from Seminole’s first round and marked the low round of the tournament by 14 strokes. SSC beat out second-place Appalachian State (+47) by a single shot.

After opening the tournament with a 19-over 307, Wofford finished three strokes back of the winners with a two-day total of 49-over-par 623. The Terriers managed a 30-over 318 through the final 18, getting caught by Seminole and App.

Seminole’s Sydney Legacy won the individual title. Legacy erased a four-shot lead held by Winthrop’s Jennifer Dilger, closing in with a 1-under-par 71 to win by one stroke at 3-over 147. Dilger shot a 4-over 76 to finish a shot behind at 4-over-par 148.

Pagrabs teed off on the first as Wofford’s low scorer from Monday. She was 1-over through six before her tee shot on the par-4 seventh found a hazard. It forced her to punch out and make double bogey after a three-putt. Another double came on her closing 18th, as she chipped on off the front-right and three-putted for an 80.

Freshman Lela Oakley and sophomore Katy Funk tied for Wofford’s low round of the day of 7-over 79. Both golfers carded five bogeys and a double bogey. Funk played the back nine spectacularly in 1-over 38, suffering four of her five bogeys, as well as her double bogey, on the front. She finished tied for 15th at 16-over-par. Meanwhile, Oakley earned a top-10 in seventh at 13-over-par.

Freshman Nicole Chin joined Oakley in seventh. Chin started her tournament with a 4-over 76 on Monday and came in with a 9-over 81.

Senior Lauren Dunbar teed off on three and was 9-over-par through 13 holes. She recovered from disaster with three straight birdies on 16, 17 and 18 for a manageable 8-over 80. Her three birdies were the team’s only three of the day and she finished tied for 11th at 14-over 158.

The Terriers had three individuals in the field, as well. Sophomore Allyson Markiewicz tied for 23rd after an 8-over 80 moved her total to 19-over 163. Senior Elizabeth Thompson was alone in 28th (+21) and junior Maegan Higgins came in 40th (+34).
