Furman?s Alexander Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Jamie Alexander has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Oct. 13-19. The selection is made by the league office.

Alexander helped the Paladins to a pair of wins on the week, scoring nine points on four goals and an assist and setting an NCAA record along the way.

In the Paladins’ 1-0 win over Samford on Friday, Alexander assisted on Carlie Couch’s game-winner in the 81st minute.

Two days later, the junior from Martinez, Ga., scored four goals in Furman’s 9-0 win over Chattanooga. Alexander scored all four goals in a span of just 5:38, setting an NCAA record for the fastest four consecutive goals by the same player. She erased the old mark of 6:26, which had stood since 2005.

Furman (10-3-2, 4-1-2 SoCon), which has won three straight, will face UNCG (8-6-3, 4-2-1) in Greensboro, N.C., on Friday before closing the regular season at VMI (3-12-1, 2-5-0) on Sunday.

Also nominated: Hannah Short (ETSU), Washida Blackman (Mercer), Amanda Abbott (Samford), Chandler Arrowood (Western Carolina) and Hannah Washko (Wofford).
