• All eight Southern Conference teams are in action this weekend.
• Home teams are 6-3 in conference play this season after going 21-15 last year.
• Four of the nine league games this season have been decided by one possession. Sixteen of the SoCon’s 36 league games were decided by one possession last year.
• Chattanooga senior Davis Tull is tied for third place on the league’s career sacks list (32.5).
• Western Carolina moved to 2-0 in league play with a 26-14 win over Wofford last weekend. The Catamounts are 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2003. The win over Wofford marked the first time since 2005 that WCU has had more than one victory in conference play.
• The Citadel earned a 63-56 double-overtime win over Charlotte on Saturday. The Bulldogs set 12 team and individual records in the win including most plays (100) and most total yards (689). The win also moved current Southern Conference teams to 28-34 (.452) all-time in overtime games.
• Mercer’s Chandler Curtis took the first punt of the game 61 yards for a touchdown in the Bears’ 49-21 win over Austin Peay. Curtis leads the FCS with four return touchdowns and is tops in the nation in punt return average (28.8 ypr).
• The Southern Conference has one player on the Walter Payton Award Watch List, while two are currently on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. Four SoCon players were named to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List. The Payton Award is presented annually to the most outstanding player at the FCS level, while the Buchanan honors the nation’s top defensive player in FCS. The Rice Award is given to the nation’s top freshman.
