SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford keeper Anna Maddox has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Oct. 6-12. The selection is made by the league office.

Maddox made 12 saves and did not allow a goal to pick up a pair of league wins in the net for the Bulldogs on the week. She turned in a 0.00 goals against average in 154 minutes of work.

The freshman from Warner Robins, Ga., worked the first 64:04 of Samford’s 5-0 win over VMI on Friday, making one save before departing with the five-goal lead. She followed that up with a career-best 11 saves in a 1-0 shutout at UNCG on Sunday, which snapped the Spartans’ seven-match unbeaten streak. The shutout was Maddox’s third of the season.

Maddox is third in the SoCon with 70 saves in 15 contests this season. She is tied for third in shutouts.

Samford (9-6-0, 4-1-0 SoCon), which jumped from fifth in the league standings into a tie for second with the pair of wins, returns to action Friday when it takes on Furman (8-3-2, 2-1-2 SoCon) at 8 p.m. in Greenville, S.C.

Also nominated: Vanessa Aponte (The Citadel), Hannah Short (ETSU), Maggie Cropp (Mercer), Kristen Whitehurst (VMI) and Caitlyn Bradham (Western Carolina).
