SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman cross country runners Tripp Hurt and Sinead Haughey were named Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Runner of the Week, respectively, for competitions of September 24-25, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The two competed at the Virginia Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday against strong competition that included Auburn, Virginia and Wake Forest. The Paladins finished second as a team on the men’s side, just four points behind 12th-ranked Virginia. The women’s team finished tied with Auburn for fifth place.

Individually, Hurt finished fifth in the men’s 8K with a time of 24:11.52 to led the Paladins. The senior physics major edged out his teammate Tanner Hinkle, who was named SoCon Runner of the Week on September 17, by just one second to finish in the top five. Hurt earns the honor for the first time in his career.

Haughey finished seventh on the women’s side to pace Furman. The senior recorded a time of 21:19.64 in the women’s 6K event. The communications major earns runner of the week honors for the second time in her career. Haughey took the weekly award on Oct. 10, 2012 during her sophomore campaign.
