SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Shannon Eriksson, a basketball player at Davidson, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 8, the league office announced Wednesday.
Eriksson olds a 3.62 GPA in chemistry, and is Davidson’s first student-athlete of the week winner this year. The junior from Fairfax, Va., was a member of the SoCon All-Academic team last year.
Eriksson averaged 15 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of games last week while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. She set a career high with 16 points in Davidson’s win over Samford on Saturday, also hauling in seven rebounds. Eriksson then posted 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and grabbed a career-best eight rebounds at Chattanooga on Monday.
Also nominated for Student-Athlete of the Week were Appalachian State women’s basketball player Maryah Sydnor, Citadel men’s basketball player Ashton Moore, Georgia Southern women’s basketball player Anna Claire Knight and Chattanooga women’s basketball player Taylor Hall.
