Clemson 7, Wofford 0

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Wofford men's tennis team was defeated by ITA No. 25-ranked Clemson University, 7-0, on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Terriers fall to 3-2 overall and the Tigers improve to 6-1 with the win.

In doubles play, the Terriers' No. 3 doubles duo of freshman Trevor Gotkowski and sophomore David Sklar defeated Kennedy and Johnson, 6-4, to win a match for Wofford. In the end, Clemson earned the point winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches

In singles play, Wofford was lead by Gotkowski, who faced Brent Lett at the No. 5 position. He defeated Lett in the first set, 6-5, but fell in the second, 6-2, and lost the match tiebreak, 1-0 (10-8).

The men's team is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on College of Charleston at 1 p.m. at the West Side Club indoor courts in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The team then turns around and plays its third match in three days as they travel to No. 18-ranked South Carolina. The match will begin at 4 p.m.

 

Memphis 7, Chattanooga 0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 match at No. 18 Memphis Friday afternoon.  The Mocs fall to 1-2 on the year while the nationally ranked Tigers improve to 2-1. 

UTC could not get much going in the opening doubles matches.  Sophomore Luke Saunders and freshman Austin Boaz won two games at No. 3, but the Mocs dropped the other two by identical 6-1 scores.   

The Mocs had a tall task in singles as well, with Memphis fielding three ranked individuals in their lineup.  Junior Pavels Grigorjevs jumped out to a 4-3 lead against No. 56 Joe Salisbury at No. 2.  He was unable to close out the first set before losing the match (6-4, 6-1). 

Saunders was the only Moc to go to three sets in singles play.  He pushed No. 87 Johnny Grimal at No. 3 before falling (3-6, 6-3, 6-0).
