Citadel's Luvsandorj Named Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Citadel 165-pounder Turtogtokh Luvsandorj has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Jan. 22-28. The selection is made by the league office.

Luvsandorj went 3-0 on the week with a win over No. 6 Corey Mock of Chattanooga. As a team, the Bulldogs went 2-1, falling only to the nationally ranked Mocs.

The Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, native got the Jan. 22 match against Chattanooga started on the right foot, as Luvsandorj earned a 4-3 decision over Mock in a battle of ranked wrestlers in the first bout of the evening. The 23rd-ranked Mocs went on to the 27-12 win.

Against Davidson on Sunday, Luvsandorj turned in a 22-6 technical fall over the Wildcats’ Patrick Devlin as The Citadel took the 26-15 league win.

Luvsandorj also claimed an 11-6 win over Theodore King of Franklin & Marshall in the Bulldogs’ 31-3 victory Sunday.

Highlighted by his win over Mock, Luvsandorj’s three wins on the week propelled him eight spots in the national rankings at 165 pounds to No. 8.

The award is Luvsandorj’s first of the season and fourth of his career.

The Citadel (5-3, 2-1 SoCon) returns to action Saturday at the All-Academy Championships in New London, Conn.

Also nominated: Vito Pasone (Appalachian State), Ville Heino (Campbell), Nathaniel Powers (Davidson), David Devine (SIUE) and Campbell Lewis (Chattanooga).
