Indoor Track Performers of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Adam Jones and Brandon Bassett have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Jones, a sophomore from Columbus, Ga., shattered a 16-year-old Samford record in the mile, setting a new mark of 4:08.29 and finishing sixth at the Auburn Indoor Invitational on Saturday.

Bassett, a senior from Tallahassee, Fla., posted the nation’s third-best score in the heptathlon at the Samford Stand Alone Multi Competition on Thursday. He finished with a school-record final point total of 5,534, also setting a new Samford record in the high jump with a mark of 2.10 meters.

Chattanooga’s Teghan Henderson and Western Carolina’s Chenell Bryan were selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Bryan, a freshman from Asheville, N.C., finished second  in the long jump at the ETSU Niswonger meet with a leap of 18-10 ¾, which set a new personal record and was the longest jump in the SoCon this season.

Henderson, a sophomore from Pickering, Ontario, cruised to a 36-second victory and a new personal record at the Niswonger Invitational, finishing the 3,000 meter race in a time of 9:35.19.
