GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman men’s soccer team climbed one spot to No. 16 in this week’s Top Drawer Soccer Top 25 and moved into the College Soccer News Top 30 for the first time this season, it was announced Monday morning.
Head coach Doug Allison’s squad claimed 1-0 victories over Gardner-Webb and James Madison this past week before playing to a 1-1 draw at Appalachian State in the Southern Conference opener on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sven Lissek notched shutouts versus the Bulldogs and Dukes to stretch the team’s shutout streak to six matches before Appalachian State netted the first goal against the Furman defense since Sept. 1. Sophomore Tyler Peoples, who has scored four goals in the Paladins’ last five matches, scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute versus James Madison before canceling out Appalachian’s goal with a 76th-minute equalizer in Boone, N.C.
The Paladins return to SoCon action on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Greensboro, N.C., to face rival UNCG at 7 p.m.
