SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern’s Jamie DeRatt, Appalachian State’s Meghan Mahoney and Davidson’s Mikayla Derochie have been named the SoCon Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 30.

DeRatt earns her second Offensive Player of the Week award for 2013 after averaging 4.22 kills, 3.56 digs and 0.78 blocks per set in a pair of GSU victories over the weekend. She set career highs of 23 kills and 19 digs in her team’s 3-1 win over Elon. The junior then added 15 kills and 13 digs to help propel the Eagles to a 3-2 victory over UNCG. DeRatt ended the weekend hitting .238 with just 13 errors on 105 attempts.

App’s Mahoney also receives her second SoCon volleyball honor of the season, being named Defensive Player of the Week after totaling 56 digs in two matches last week. Mahoney notched 36 digs in the Mountaineers’ 3-1 loss to Western Carolina and followed that performance with a 20-dig match against Davidson. Mahoney averaged 7.0 digs per set for the weekend and added 11 assists.

Derochie notched her third straight Freshman of the Week award this week. Derochie set a new career high with 53 assists in Davidson’s match with Western Carolina, adding four kills and hitting .667. She followed that with 41 assists, 11 digs and four kills against Appalachian State. She averaged 10.4 assists per set on the weekend while hitting .471 and making zero attacking errors on 17 attempts.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were: The Citadel’s Erin Bucherl, Davidson’s Anastasia Owens, Furman’s Annie Bierman, Georgia Southern’s Alexandra Beecher, UNCG’s Katherine Santiago, Samford’s Chelsi Carter, Western Carolina’s Morgan Cochran and Wofford’s Jessica Graham.

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week were: Appalachian State’s Kati Stammen, The Citadel’s Megan Sewell, Elon’s Kayla Agae, Furman’s Ashton Gregory, UNCG’s Sara Hohman, and Chattanooga’s Allie Davenport.
