Volleyball Players of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Karrian Chambers, Western Carolina’s Addy George and Davidson’s Mikayla Derochie have been named the SoCon Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 23.

Chambers, a senior outside hitter, was named to the all-tournament team for her performance at the Spartan Spiketacular over the weekend. She posted two double-doubles while averaging 4.11 kills and 4.11 digs per set. She finished the championship match against TCU with 18 kills and 18 digs while hitting .263. In the opening game of the tournament, Chambers totaled 13 kills and 11 digs while making just four errors on 26 attempts to finish with a .346 hitting percentage. Chambers notched her highest hitting mark of the season against North Carolina Central, sporting a .667 hitting percentage with six kills on nine attempts and no errors. She ended the weekend just 63 short of 1,000 for her career.

George recorded 2.22 blocks per set on her way to all-tournament honors at the Carolina Classic over the weekend. George paced the Catamounts with two blocks in a 3-0 loss to South Carolina and three blocks in a sweep of Presbyterian. She set a Western Carolina record with 15 block assists in the Catamounts 3-0 sweep of Robert Morris, and finished the weekend with 20 total blocks. George now leads the SoCon in blocks with 55 and blocks per set with 1.42, good enough for 12th in the NCAA.

Derochie takes Freshman of the Week honors for the second week in a row. The freshman setter led the Wildcats with 10.3 assists per set and a .344 hitting percentage. She set two career highs against Murray State, finishing with six kills and 51 assists. Derochie hit .429 in Davidson’s 3-0 win over North Carolina A&T and hit over .300 in all three matches over the weekend. She set a career high in digs against High Point, notching 16 in the match.

Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week were: Appalachian State’s Emily Corrigan, The Citadel’s Ise d’Angelo, Davidson’s Taylor Pisel, Elon’s Kris Harris, Furman’s Amelia Bohlander, Georgia Southern’s Katie Bange, Samford’s Michaela Reesor, Chattanooga’s Allie Davenport, Western Carolina’s Addy George and Wofford’s Elizabeth Buterbaugh.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were: Appalachian State’s Meghan Mahoney, The Citadel’s Lauren Hurt, Davidson’s Caroline Brown, Elon’s Kris Harris, Georgia Southern’s Alexandra Beecher, UNCG’s Katherine Santiago, Samford’s Katie Murphy, Chattanooga’s Kendall Sexton and Wofford’s Jessica Graham.

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week were: Appalachian State’s Kati Stammen, The Citadel’s Megan Sewell, Elon’s Kayla Agae, Furman’s Ashton Gregory and Chattanooga’s Allie Davenport.
