SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern’s Jamie DeRatt, Appalachian State’s Meghan Mahoney and Samford’s Erin Bognar have been named the SoCon Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 2. The selections are made by the conference office.
DeRatt, a junior outside hitter, was named MVP of the Jaguar Invitational after leading Georgia Southern to a 3-0 record over the weekend. She posted 37 kills, 28 digs and four aces on the weekend, also averaging 4.67 kills a set and a .291 hitting percentage. DeRatt led the Eagles in kills in each match and had a double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs in the Eagles’ 3-1 win over host South Alabama.
Mahoney, a sophomore middle blocker, led the Mountaineers defensively with 55 digs in nine games played, averaging 6.11 per game. Mahoney recorded match-high digs against each of Appalachian’s three opponents, including 22 digs versus Loyola, 21 against Sam Houston State and 12 versus Norfolk State. Mahoney also recorded an ace each against Sam Houston State and Norfolk State. With match-highs against Loyola and SHSU, she already topped her freshman record of 12 against Houston and Georgetown in 2012.
Bognar, an outsider hitter, was the only freshman to start all four matches for the Bulldogs. Bognar ranked second on the team over the weekend with 36 kills in four matches. She also led the Bulldogs in the 3-0 win over Mercer on Saturday with 17 kills and only two errors on 29 swings.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were: The Citadel’s Lauren Hurt, Davidson’s Anastasia Owen, Elon’s Kris Harris, Furman’s Elle Ross, Georgia Southern’s Kym Coley, Samford’s Chelsi Carter, UNCG’s Katherine Santiago, Western Carolina Addy George and Wofford’s Jessica Graham.
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week were: Appalachian State’s Kati Stammen, The Citadel’s Samantha Espy, Davidson’s Mikayla Derochie, Furman’s Ashton Gregory, UNCG’s Sara Hohman, Chattanooga’s Allie Davenport and Western Carolina’s Tina Nazario.
