SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Nathan Dean, a junior goalkeeper on the Elon men’s soccer team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 18, the league office announced Wednesday.

Dean sports a 3.84 GPA while majoring in economics. He is a native of Liverpool, England.

Dean helped the Phoenix remain unbeaten in 2013 as it upset No. 9 Wake Forest 1-0 on Tuesday. He made a season-high six saves in the contest, including two key stops in the 29^th minute.

He also prevented a game-tying goal in the 86^th minute on a Demon Deacon free kick to preserve a 1-0 lead and maintain his second shutout of the season. The shutout was the 12^th of Dean’s career, placing him fourth all-time in school history.

Elon returns to action Friday, when the Phoenix hosts William and Mary.
