SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today (Sept. 18) the schedule of men’s and women’s basketball game the league will produce with its broadcast partners during the 2013-14 men’s and women’s basketball seasons. In addition to the league’s exclusive package of games with ESPN3, the Southern Conference also reached an agreement with Charter/Comcast Sports Southeast to televise a package of games that will also be simulcast through ESPN3.
“Thanks to the cooperation of our partners at ESPN, we’re pleased to add 10 games on CSS this season,” said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino. “These games, combined with our agreement with ESPN3 represent an improved presence for our programs.”
The conference will produce five men’s and women’s doubleheaders during the season, with all 10 games available through ESPN3. All 11 Southern Conference men’s programs and all 10 women’s programs will appear at least once throughout the season. Southern Conference men’s and women’s teams will have a combined minimum of 61 institutional exposures through ESPN3 in 2013-14.
The men’s package begins Nov. 11 when Wisconsin-Milwaukee visits Davidson in a game that can be seen on ESPN3. The Furman Paladins host Florida Gulf Coast on Nov. 15 on CSS. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season.
The first women’s game takes place Jan. 4, when Furman welcomes Appalachian State to Timmons Arena. The Chattanooga Mocs, who won the 2013 Southern Conference championship, will host Samford on Jan. 25 on ESPN3.
The first three days of the 2013 Southern Conference men’s basketball tournament will be available on ESPN3. The opening round (March 7) and quarterfinals (March 8) will be available exclusively on ESPN3, while the semifinals (March 9) will be shown on both CSS and ESPN3. The men’s basketball championship game is set for Monday, March 10, at 9 p.m. on ESPN2. The women’s semifinals and championship game will be shown on both CSS and ESPN3.
