Samford's Taule Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford midfielder Trine Taule has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 9-15. The selection is made by the league office.

The senior from Frekhaug, Norway, scored twice in the Bulldogs’ 3-2, double-overtime win over Vanderbilt on Friday, which completed Samford’s season sweep of the SEC opponents on its schedule. Samford has also beaten Tennessee and Auburn this season, both by 1-0 scores.

Taule’s first two scores of the season came in the first half against the Commodores. Her first strike gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, while her second put Samford up 2-1 in the 43rd minute. The home squad would go on to win on a Michelle Moll goal in the 108th minute.

The pair of goals pushed Taule’s career total to 18, moving her into a tie for seventh on the Bulldogs’ career list.

The weekly award is the first of Taule’s career.

Samford (4-2) returns to the pitch Tuesday at Kennesaw State at 7 p.m.

Also nominated: Samantha Childress (Appalachian State), Nicole Dennion (Elon), India Robinson (Furman), Clare Latham (Chattanooga) and Kelly Pannell (Western Carolina).
