Elon Sits Third at William & Mary Invite

Elon third at William & Mary Invitational

KINGS MILL, Va. –  Solid rounds from Sunna Vidisdottir and Emily Brooks helped the Elon women's golf team to a third-place showing following the first of three rounds of the William & Mary Invitational on Sunday. The Phoenix ended the first day of play with a team score of 302.

Vidisdottir will begin Monday's second round two strokes off the individual lead. On Sunday, the sophomore carded a 1-over-par 72 to tie for second in the field of 51 players. Vidisdottir was tied for second with four birdies on day one.

Brooks, who posted three birdies, is tied for seventh with a mark of 74.

Making her collegiate debut, freshman Kelsey Badmaev heads to Monday in a tie for 15th individually after carding a 76. Badmaev's 13 pars were the third-most on Sunday.

Katie Partridge and Kristi Ingram are also competing for the Maroon and Gold. Partridge shot a first-round 80 and is tied for 26th, while Ingram's 88 has her tied for 44th.

The individual lead belongs to William & Mary's Kelly McGovern, who shot a 70 on Sunday.

The nine-team field was paced by Morehead State and William & Mary, which both notched 294s on Sunday and lead the Phoenix by eight strokes.

Elon sits ahead of Richmond (307), Georgetown (309), Radford (315), Hofstra (330), Randolph-Macon (343) and Hampton (375) following one round.
