Men's Soccer 9/10/2013 10:01:00 AM Southern Conference Moffitt Named SoCon Player of the Week SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG goalkeeper Stephen Moffitt has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 2-8. The selection is made by the league office.Moffitt, a redshirt sophomore, posted a pair of shutouts as UNCG (3-0-0) picked up 1-0 road wins over No. 15 Charlotte and James Madison.On Sept. 3, Moffitt posted four saves in blanking the ranked 49ers, helping hand Charlotte, a 2011 College Cup finalist, its first home-opening loss since 1999.Moffitt followed that up with another four saves in the win over the Dukes on Sept. 7 to pick up his second shutout of the week and third of the young season.Moffitt, starting in goal for the first time in his career this season, has the Spartans off to a 3-0-0 start and a No. 18 national ranking in the College Soccer News Top 30.UNCG has posted three straight shutouts to open the season for the first time since 1983, when the Spartans went 23-1-1 and won an NCAA DIII national championship.UNCG returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Triad rival High Point at 7 p.m.Also nominated: Stanley Broaden (Appalachian State), Max Pragnell (Davidson), James Brace (Elon) and Eli Pinner (Furman).2013 Men’s Soccer Players of the WeekSept. 3 Martin Ontiveros, FurmanSept. 10 Stephen Moffitt, UNCG -www.SoConSports.com-
