Wittick Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern forward Jennifer Wittick has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 2-8. The selection is made by the league office.

Wittick, a freshman, scored the first two goals of her career last week, netting both Eagle goals in a 2-1 win over Stetson on Friday.

The rookie from Downingtown, Pa., got on the scoreboard in the 16th minute against the Hatters, then doubled the Eagles’ lead less than seven minutes later with what would prove to be the game-winning goal.

The win was Georgia Southern’s first of the season and handed head coach Brian Dunleavy his first at the helm for the Eagles.

GSU (1-3-0) returns to action Friday when it hosts Jacksonville at 7 p.m.

Also nominated: Samantha Childress (Appalachian State), Naomi Carter (The Citadel), Nicole Dennion (Elon), Ashley Stokes (UNCG), Amanda Abbott (Samford), Crystal Mackezyk (Chattanooga) and Maggie Bosley (Wofford).
