PHILADELPHIA – The Sports Network announced today (July 1) the 2013 Preseason FCS All-America Team. The Southern Conference placed 15 individuals, representing seven schools, on the three squads. Five student-athletes garnered first team honors while the league placed five more student-athletes on each of the second and third teams.
Appalachian State’s Sean Price (WR), Georgia Southern’s Dominique Swope (RB) and Chattanooga’s Davis Tull (DL) joined a pair of Samford Bulldogs on the first team. Fabian Truss was named the first team kick returner, while teammate Jaquiski Tartt was tabbed as a first team safety.
The Citadel was represented by Darrien Robinson (RB). He joined Furman’s Dakota Dozier (OL) and Georgia Southern's Garrett Frye (OL) on the second team offense. Linebackers Wes Dothard (Chattanooga) and Alvin Scioneaux (Wofford) were named to the second team defense.
The Mountaineers’ Tony Washington (KR), Samford’s Kelsey Pope (WR) and Wofford’s Jared Singleton (OL) garnered third-team honors on offense, while The Citadel’s Derek Douglas (DT) and UTC’s Kadeem Wise (DB) were chosen on defense.
The Southern Conference will host its 2013 Football Media Day on July 24th. The season officially kicks off Thursday, August 29th when Chattanooga hosts UT-Martin and Western Carolina visits Middle Tennessee.
