Men's Outdoor Track and Field Southern Conference

Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Paul Chelimo and Appalachian State’s Patrick Quinn have been named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over last weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Chelimo finished ninth in the 5K at the prestigious Stanford Invitational. The junior’s time of 13:42 is the fastest time in the SoCon by nearly 28 seconds and currently has him ranked third in the NCAA East Region and fifth in the nation.

Quinn won the pole vault at the Mountains vs. Beaches meet hosted by Appalachian State. The freshman’s vault of 15' 9 1/4" (4.81m) is the fifth best mark in school history and ranks him second in the conference.

Samford’s Lauren D’Alessio and College of Charleston’s RoShani Glover have been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over last weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

D’Alessio finished with a 16:27.97 time in the 5000m at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend. This time currently leads the SoCon and marks second on Samford’s all-time bests list.

Glover jumped 12.06m (39’ 7”) in the triple jump over the weekend at the Raleigh Relays, which puts her in first place on the SoCon ranking list. The freshman finished first in the event in her section.

Men’s track honorable mention included: Paul Katam, UNCG – ran a time of 29:21 in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational, which leads the SoCon, is ninth in the NCAA East Region, and 16th in the nation; Demetrios Pagonis, Davidson – set a new 10K school record of 29:32.58 at the Stanford Invitational. His time broke the school record by over 16 seconds and was a personal best by over 40 seconds. His time ranks second in the SoCon, 13th in the NCAA East Region and 23rd in the nation; Brian Graves, Appalachian State – Graves ran a person 10K best of 30:12.56 at the Raleigh Relays. His time ranks him third in the SoCon and puts him in Appalachian State’s all-time top-ten for this event.
