SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG sophomore Fanny Cnops has been named the Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week for all competition March 27 to April 2. The selection is made by the league office.

Cnops fired a three-day total of 221 at the extremely competitive Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C., over the weekend, tying for 17th in the field of 90 golfers, which included 24 ranked players. As a team, the Spartans finished 15th in the 17-team field, which included 14 ranked squads.

After shooting a first-round 78 on Friday, the Ghent, Belgium, native recovered with a 73 on Saturday and closed her tournament with a 2-under 70 on Sunday.

The reigning SoCon Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, Cnops leads the league with a 73.15 stroke average this season.

UNCG returns to action this weekend at the UNCW Seahawk Classic at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C.

Also nominated: Yue Xu (Appalachian State), Vanessa Koechli (College of Charleston), Eraina Manor (The Citadel), Natalie Mitchell (Samford), Maria Kjelldorff (Western Carolina) and Lauren Dunbar (Wofford).
