GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s tennis team concludes its regular season with a tough 5-2 loss against Charlotte Monday, April 15.

The Spartans started off strong winning two out of three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.

Freshman Daniel Mack and junior Ahmet Sarioglu teamed up against Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Jack Williams at No. 1, but fell 8-4.

Freshmen James Doughtery and Gaston Murray defeated Paul Cisti and Alex Calott in a close 9-7 match at No. 2.

At No. 3, Freshman William Albright and junior Jimmy Roueche won 8-5 against Kamil Khalil and Krzysztof Kwasniewicz.

In singles play, Sarioglu dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Williams at No. 1, while Dougherty fell in a close three-set match,  4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 against Ferrer.

Murray picked up the lone singles win at No. 3 against Khalil, 6-3, 7-5.

Mack lost 6-3, 6-4 to Cisti at No. 4, while Smith dropped a tough three-set match against Calott, 7-6 (8-6), 0-6, 6-3.

At No. 6, Roueche fell to Kwasniewicz, 6-4, 6-1.

UNCG ends the regular season 14-4 overall and 7-3 in Southern Conference play. The Blue and Gold return to action Friday, April 19 when they take on fifth seeded Chattanooga at the SoCon tournament in Elon, N.C. at 9 a.m.
