SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Kasey Tydingco and UNCG’s Raeanne Hanks have been named the Southern Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively, the league announced Monday. The selections are made by the Southern Conference office.
Tydingco slugged 1.700 with a .600 batting average over four games for the Lady Mocs, leading Chattanooga to a sweep over the Western Carolina Catamounts. The senior first baseman tallied six hits, including two doubles and three home runs. Kasey homered in three of the four games played last week, including one against Georgia State and two against the Catamounts. The first baseman also drove in nine Chattanooga runs while recording just two strikouts and walking three times - plus being hit by a pitch - to post a .714 on base percentage. The defensive star also maintained a 1.000 fielding percentage along with a team-best 33 put-outs.
Hanks posted a 2-0 record last week helping the Spartans take the series from conference-foe Elon. The Rainier, Ore., native boasted a 1.17 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched, allowing only three runs (two earned) with 13 strikeouts, seven walks, and no extra-base hits.
Also receiving nominations for player of the week were Appalachian State’s Meghan Smith, College of Charleston’s Allison Pedigo, Elon’s Carleigh Nester, Georgia Southern’s Kourtny Thomas and UNCG’s Allison Geiner.
Also nominated for pitcher of the week were Appalachian State’s Shivaun Landeros, Elon’s Kayla Caruso, Furman’s Meaghan Houston, Georgia Southern’s Brooke Red and Chattanooga’s Taylor Deason.
