SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. - The Furman women's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 4-3 victory over #56 UC Santa Barbara Friday in a rain delayed match at the Robertson Gym Courts in Santa Barbara, Calif.

On Thursday afternoon, the Paladins battled the Gauchos to a 3-3 tie through the six singles matches, before rain pushed the doubles finish to Friday at noon.

Furman senior Lauren Kline defeated April Scatliffe, 6-3, 6-2, at number one singles, while senior Michele Stanford bested Priscilia Garcia, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, in the flight four match.  Junior Amanda Murray rounded out the Paladin singles wins with a 7-5, 6-0 victory versus Stacy Yam.

UC Santa Barbara picked up singles wins at flights two, three, and six.  Kiersten Meehan posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision over junior Katherine Oudin at number two, and Paola Cos defeated sophomore Alex Moreno-Kaste, 7-6, 7-5, in the third-seeded match-up.  At number six, Erica Cano beat sophomore Kelly Sullivan, 6-3, 6-3.

The Paladins led at number one and number three doubles when play was suspended on Thursday.  Furman came through with doubles wins in both matches Friday, as Kline and Moreno-Kaste teamed up to defeat Garcia and Cano, 8-3, in the top match, and junior Margaret Boyette and Sullivan notched an 8-4 victory over Megan Carter and Karolina Kecki at number three to clinch the match.
