CofC?s Neumann Named Women?s Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston freshman Julia Neumann has been named the Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week for all competition Feb. 27 through March 5. The selection is made by the league office.

Neumann won the Cougars’ own Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Tuesday, heading into the clubhouse with a three-day total of 219 to finish atop a leaderboard that included 171 other competitors.

A top-25 amateur golfer in her native Germany, the Berlin native shot rounds of 74, a career-low 71 and 74 to win her first collegiate tournament in just her third collegiate event.

She helped the Cougars to a second-place team finish in what is the largest collegiate tournament in the country with 32 teams in the field, including fellow SoCon members The Citadel, Elon, UNCG, Samford and Wofford. CofC led the tournament after the first two days of the event but saw No. 36 Campbell rally on day three for the three-stroke win.

College of Charleston is back in action at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., on March 15-16.
