ORLANDO, Fla. – The College of Charleston softball team split its pair of games in the final day of the Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports on Sunday afternoon. The Cougar bats were rejuvenated in an 11-3 handling of Georgetown but it didn’t carry over to a 6-2 loss to Hofstra in the finale.

CofC (8-7) picked up eight hits and scored all 11 of its runs by way of RBIs in the opener, the 11-3 victory over Georgetown which snapped a three-game losing skid. Junior Kelsey Hodgson (Woodstock, Ga.) led the way with two home runs and five RBIs, including a game-ending grand slam which induced the eight-run rule in the fifth.

In the second game, Carly Corthell (Reno, Nev.) sent a ball over the fence to put the Cougars up  2-1 in the third, but a five-run Pride fourth inning turned out to be the difference.

The Cougars open the Southern Conference schedule with a three-game set at Furman next weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m. and the single-game finale on Sunday, March 10 at 1 p.m.

COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON: 11, GEORGETOWN: 3

CofC built a seven-run lead before surrendering a single run over the first three innings, and when the Hoyas sparked a three-run rally to make the game close in the fourth, Hodgson put the game away with her grand slam in the fifth.

Hope Klicker (Walla Walla, Wash.) earned the win in the circle after spreading three hits and four strikeouts across four innings.

CofC started the scoring right away when Corthell took a hit-by-pitch and scored on an RBI single from Chandler Frisbie (Lawrenceville, Ga.), the freshman’s seventh of the season.

The second inning went similarly for the Cougars, with Kristy Giragosian (Charlotte, N.C.) being hit by a pitch to start the inning and later scoring on an RBI double by freshman Rebecca Mueller (Fair Oaks, Calif.).

The Cougars started to blow the game open in the third inning after Hodgson led off with a monstrous blast to dead center. Three Cougar hitters would then draw walks in the inning, and RBIs from Valerie Cassell (Edison, N.J.), Mueller and Corthell pushed the score to 7-0.

The Hoyas showed signs of life in the fourth and scored three runs on three hits to cut into the deficit, but had their comeback effort undone with Hodgson’s fifth-inning grand slam.

Lizzy Vaughn (Placerville, Calif.), Mueller and Lexi Murdock (Clifton, Va.) put themselves on board via free passes, and Hodgson sent a shot to her opposite field and over the fence in right to draw the game to a close.

The Cougars put their leadoff hitter aboard in all five innings of the game and failed to score the runner only once.

COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON: 2, HOFSTRA: 6

The Cougars looked to roll the offensive success over to the Classic finale and were optimistic after Corthell’s second-inning homer, but the momentum ebbed after a five-run Hofstra fourth inning which proved too much for the Cougars to overcome.

Jess Hirschbuhl led off with a homerun in the second, but the Cougars quickly recovered when Corthell homered with Mueller on base to put CofC up, 2-1, in the third.

In the fourth, the Pride put its first four hitters on base to tie the game and load the bases. The Cougars recorded two quick outs and looked to escape the jam, but then a hit-by-pitch and bases-clearing double from Tessa Ziemba made the score 6-2, the ultimate final.

South Alabama 4, Samford 0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- One big half-inning for South Alabama proved enough to defeat Samford in an otherwise quick contest Sunday at the Magic City Classic, as the Jaguars defeated the Bulldogs, 4-0.

Samford (7-8) only earned three hits in the loss as they struggled to find a rhythm against good pitching by the visitors.  Mollie Hanson (5-7) allowed four runs and five hits in the top of the fourth but was stellar in the remaining innings, scattering three hits with six strikeouts.

South Alabama (17-2) rallied in the top of the fourth to earn the win, helped by a good outing by junior lefty Hannah Campbell (7-2), as she shut out the Bulldogs while allowing only three hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

A hard-hit single by South Alabama’s Brittany Fowler led off the top of the fourth for South Alabama.  The ball had eyes in the next two at-bats, as consecutive sacrifice bunt attempts found perfects spots in the infield to go down as bunt singles, loading the bases with nobody out.  In a big spot, Haley Fagan came through with a grand slam that just cleared the fence in center field to put South Alabama up 4-0.  The Jaguars would get another hit in the inning but would not score as the 4-0 difference after the half-inning eventually proved final.

For their efforts over the weekend, Samford’s Caitlin Bice, Callie Brister and Kayla Shaffer were named to the Magic City Classic All-Tournament Team.

Next weekend, Samford begins conference play with a road trip to Greensboro, N.C., to take on the conference-leading UNCG Spartans (15-2).  The teams will play a double-header on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m. ET and will conclude the three-game series with a single game on Sunday, March 10 at 1 p.m.  Before playing Samford, UNCG has a midweek matchup in Blacksburg, Va., against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Tuesday, March 5.

Elon 8, Manhattan 7

ELON, N.C. – Highlighted by a pair of home runs by Johanna Spencer and Tomeka Watson, the Elon softball team swept Manhattan College in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 3, at Hunt Softball Park. The Phoenix won the first game, 8-7, on Spencer’s walk-off home run in the seventh inning and followed with a 10-5 victory to improve to 8-5 on the year while the Jaspers fall to 0-3.

Game 1

Carleigh Nester led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to left field to give the Phoenix and early 1-0 advantage. Camille Hill and Watson each singled on the following at bats before Spencer singled up the middle to drive in Hill. Watson would cross home plate on a passed ball to give the maroon and gold a 3-0 lead after the first.

Both teams went scoreless in the second inning, but Manhattan would get on the scoreboard in the top of the third. Meghan McDevitt hit a solo home run into left center to cut the Jasper’s deficit to 3-1. The Jaspers would continue to threaten after Jen Keller advanced to second on a sacrifice with only one out and the potential tying run at the plate. The Jasper’s Jocelin Whitmore filed out to right field to advance Keller to third, but Amanda Babcock’s single resulted in Keller being throw out at home by second baseman Lauren Oldham to end the inning

In the bottom half, Watson and Spencer hit back-to back homers to push Elon’s lead to 5-1 with no outs in the inning. Aly Quintana hit a one-out double into right center and advanced to third on Grace Eng’s grounder to the pitcher, but she would be stranded as the Jaspers recorded the final out to escape the inning trailing by four.

Nester would score her second run of the day in the bottom of the fourth on a Hill single to left center. Manhattan then made a pitching change as Erin Hamm relieved starter Amy Bright. Watson reached on a fielder’s choice with the next at bat and moved into scoring position after stealing second. Spencer followed with another single up the middle and gave Elon a 7-1 lead.

Manhattan responded with a three-run inning in the top of the sixth to trim its deficit to 7-4, then tied it at 7-7 in the top of the seventh on a Kate Bowen one-out, two-run single up the middle. Bowen would advance into scoring position at second after Elena Bowman reached on an error, but Karen Berna, pitching in relief of Eve Clausen, retired the final two batters to end then inning with Elon up to bat in the bottom of the seventh.

Spencer would waste no time as the junior third basemen hit her second home run of the day over on first pitch she saw into right center for the walk-off win.

Berna (2-1) earned the win after relieving Clausen in the top of the seventh. Clausen pitched 6.0 innings of work and allowed only one earned run in the first five innings. Hamm (0-1) took the loss for the Jaspers after 2.2 innings pitched.

Spencer went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two home runs to lead the offensive attack for the Phoenix. Four other players also had two hits for Elon.

Game 2

Watson hit her ninth home run of the year to get Elon on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Watson hit a two-out solo shot into left center to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.

Elon added to that lead in the bottom of the second, plating five runs. Amanda Allen drove in Eng on a one out single through the right side followed by a Nester single to score Quintana with the bases loaded. Allen would cross home plate on a passed ball for Elon’s third run of the inning. After Watson was intentionally walked to load the bases, Spencer reached on an error to score another run for the Phoenix. Eng walked in the next at bat to reward the Phoenix another run and give the maroon and gold a 6-0 lead.

Elon added four more runs in the bottom of the third to push its lead to 10-2. Hill singled to right field to drive in Allen followed by Watson batting in two more on a single up the middle. Eng hit a one out fly out to left field to add another run for the Phoenix.

Manhattan responded with two more runs in the top of the fourth and another in the top of the seventh on a two-out single by Babcock, but Elon was able to force the final batter to ground out to end the game.

Caitlin O’Shea (1-0) earned the win in her first start of the year in 3.0 innings of work. Berna pitched the remaining 4.0 innings in relief and allowed only one earned run with three strikeouts.

Manhattan starter Kelsi Redding (0-1) took the loss for the Jaspers after pitching 1.2 innings.

Allen, Nester and Watson each went a combined 6-for-9 with five RBI and five runs scored. Eng had two RBI and drew two walks.

Drexel 6, Western Carolina 5

Coastal Carolina 4, Western Carolina 0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Western Carolina softball (6-11) dropped both games, in the final day of action, at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, falling 6-5 to Drexel in eight innings and being shut out by Coastal Carolina 4-0.

Drexel 6, Western Carolina 5 (eight innings)

Western Carolina lost in eight innings, 6-5, to Drexel after battling back to tie the game in the sixth inning. The Dragons’ Emily Baker hit an RBI single scoring Comfort Ahonkhai, who had been placed on second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Ahonkhai was placed on second, in the eighth, per international tie-breaker rules in softball where the last player, in the previous inning to get out, is placed on second.

Senior Shemekia Scotton tied the game, with one swing of the bat, in the bottom of the sixth inning. Trailing 5-2, Scotton hit her first homerun of the season, and the second for the team, to knot the game at five. The Catamounts began the two-out rally, that set up Scotton’s homerun, when Amelia Griffin singled to centerfield and Jordan Fulton singled past the shortstop to put runners on first and second and set up Scotton’s game-tying long ball.

The Catamounts took the early 2-0 lead, scoring a run in the first and one in the second. Western Carolina got on the board first thanks to an RBI single by Amber Steinhardt in the first inning and took a 2-0 advantage on an RBI groundout by Scotton with the bases loaded.

Sophomore pitcher Jordan Garrett got the start in the game and was cruising along until the third inning when she gave up back-to-back singles with two outs. Garrett looked like she would get out of the jam when she struck out Karli Boyer, but catcher Heather Chastain dropped the ball, and when Chastain attempted to throw down to first it was an errant throw which allowed to runners to score and Drexel to the game at two.

Drexel would score five unanswered runs, including three in the fifth inning, to build a 5-2 lead before Scotton’s homerun tied the game at five.

Garrett suffered the loss and falls to 4-6 on the season. She allowed six runs, but only one was earned, and struck out 11. Garrett has now had double figure strikeout games in six of her 13 starts this season.

Scotton and Steinhardt each had two hits in the game accounting for half of the eight hits by Western Carolina in the game.

Coastal Carolina 4, Western Carolina 0

Fulton spoiled Coastal Carolina pitcher Kiana Quolas no hitter when she picked up the Catamounts only hit in the game in the top of the seventh inning. Prior to the hit by Fulton, Quolas had sat down 18-of -19 Catamount batters in the game.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when Coastal Carolina exploded for four runs.

Freshman Taylor Sigmon got her second start of the season on the mound. She falls to 0-2 on the season after allowing four runs on five hits, and striking out eight, in 4.1 innings of work. Fellow freshman Mallory Broome tossed the final 1.2 innings allowing one hit and strikeout out one.

Western Carolina hosts rival Appalachian State in its Southern Conference and home opener March 9. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. at the Catamount Softball Complex.

South Carolina 7, Georgia Southern 2

STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Softball closed the 2013 Eagle Classic by falling 7-2 to South Carolina at Eagle Field. The Gamecocks won the Eagle Classic Championship by going undefeated on the weekend. The Eagles, hampered by three errors, did all their scoring in the sixth inning off back-to-back solo home runs.

South Carolina (12-3) took an early lead with a run in the first inning. A walk with one out opened the door for the Gamecocks to score the run later in the inning with a single to left field. Sarah Purvis held the Gamecocks scoreless in the second third and fourth innings, not allowing another hit until the top of the fifth.

The Gamecocks added four runs in the fourth with three coming home on a three-run home run by Kristen Streuett to give the visitors a 5-0 lead.

In the sixth, Lexi Allen got the Eagles (9-10) on the board with a solo home run to left field. It was the first long-ball of the season for the sophomore who was not retired all day. Next up was Kourtny Thomas who crushed her fifth home run of the season to the same spot in left field, cutting the lead to 5-2.

The Gamecocks tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh to account for the 7-2 final score. Purvis struck out nine and took the loss, falling to 5-6 on the season.

Next up for Georgia Southern is the first midweek game of the season on Wednesday afternoon at home against Jacksonville. The Eagles face the Dolphins starting from 5 p.m. at the friendly confines of Eagle Field. Next weekend, Georgia Southern opens SoCon play with a trip to Elon.

Chattanooga 5, Northern Kentucky 2

MACON, Ga. --The Chattanooga Lady Mocs (10-9) claimed the Mercer Bear Classic championship Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Northern Kentucky.

Taylor Deason (Clarksville, Tenn.) earned the win with a seven-inning, five hit performance against the Norse. Both senior Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.) and junior Stephanie Rieck (Chandler, Ariz) each collected two hits, while Jenny Garcia (Miami, Fla.) and Tyler Templet (Woodstock, Ga.) provided RBIs.

The Lady Mocs scored first in the second inning. Rieck reached on an error, one of six committed by NKU, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ninjja Suetsugu (Sao Paulo, Brazil). A groundout from Kaiti Dutton (Tulsa, Okla.) moved Rieck to third and a second error in the inning allowed Amanda Ross (Torrance, Calif.) to reach first to score Rieck.

The Norse took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning, but Chattanooga tied it up at 2-2 with an RBI single from Garcia in the bottom of the fourth to score Rieck.

Chattanooga took a permanent lead in the sixth in a three-run flurry. A throwing error put Suetsugu at first and a pinch-hit double from Templet scored pinch-runner Yoshi Hooks (Cleleland, Tenn.) from first base. A fielder's choice from Alyssa Taylor (Orange, Calif.) brought Templet in and Poteat scored on an error by the shortstop, giving Chattanooga it's 5-2 score.

Chattanooga travels to Clearwater, Fla. next weekend to compete in the USF Under Armour Tournament. While in Clearwater, the Lady Mocs will take on Toledo, Wagner, Villanova, Loyola Marymount and Temple. Live stats and audio for the tournament are available throughout the weekend on GoMocs.com.

UNCG 5, Monmouth 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG softball team defeated Monmouth, 5-2, before rallying to knock off ACC foe Virginia, 2-1, to cap off a perfect Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans add two more wins to improve to 15-2, their best start in school history. The Blue and Gold have won five-straight games since losing a tough 4-3 game against Marshall last weekend.

UNCG 5, Monmouth 2

In game one, UNCG earned a hard fought victory over Monmouth, 5-2, after freshman Lindsay Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) finished 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI 

The Spartans took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Thomas blasted her team-leading sixth home run of the season. Thomas hit a two-run shot to left center after classmate Danielle Vega (Rialto, Calif./Aquinas) worked a one out walk.

Monmouth had an opportunity in the top of the third as the Hawks loaded the bases. Catcher Kayla Weiser and outfielder Shannon Fitzgerald hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Sophomore Erica Navarette (San Marcos, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) induced a groundout to Tish Derer for the second out. Navarette walked Kate Kuzma intentionally to load the bases with two outs but got Jill Freese to strike out swinging to end the threat.

The Hawks loaded the bases again in the top of the fourth with only one out. Kayleena Flores reached on an error to start the frame. After a pop out, Alicia DeSanto singled to the pitcher and Weiser walked to load the bases. Navarette forced another pop out and a groundout to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, UNCG scored two more runs to take a 4-0 lead. Freshman Chelsea Strandlund (Victoria, B.C./Lambrick Park) reached on an error by the third baseman. Sophomore Tatiana Alcala (Oxnard, Calif./Pacifica) reached after Monmouth second baseman dropped the ball at first. After an out, freshman Nicole Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) worked a walk to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Toni MacReynolds (Vienna, Va./James Madison) earned an RBI sac fly to centerfield to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead. With two outs, Vega lined a single through the infield to score another run for UNCG.

Monmouth broke through with two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2. The Hawks worked two walks to start the inning. Redshirt junior Raeanne Hanks (Rainier, Ore./Rainier Senior) came on in relief and struck out DeSanto swinging for the first out. Monmouth loaded the bases for the third time after Weiser reached on an error. Fitzgerald singled home two runs to put the Hawks on the board. A heads up play by senior Eileen Horsmon (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) who threw home to nail a runner after Derer singled to shortstop. Hanks ended the jam with a groundout to second to keep UNCG in the lead 4-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Spartans answered with a two out RBI single from Thomas to make it 5-2. With two outs, junior Aisha Figueroa (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) worked a walk, while Vega followed with a single through the infield. Thomas came through with her 16th RBI of the season to give UNCG a 5-2 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Hanks induced a fly out and a line out to begin the inning. After a walk and a single, Hanks ended the game by striking out DeSanto swinging for the victory.

Navarette improved to 2-1 after throwing five innings, allowing no earned runs with four strikeouts. Hanks picked up her third save of the season tossing two innings with two strikeouts.

UNCG 2, Virginia 1

In game two, Horsmon roped a walk-off double off the wall to score pinch-runner Kiah Ruffin (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest-Rolesville) from second to give UNCG a 2-1 victory against Virginia.

The bottom of the seventh started with a single from Vega when Lindsay Thomas laid down a sacrifice bunt to move pinch-runner Ruffin into scoring position. Horsmon picked up her eighth RBI with the game-winning hit off the right field wall.

Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth after Shannon McGinley singled up the middle scoring Kristen Hawkins from third with two outs. Erica Cipolloni singled to start the frame, followed by a foul out to first. With one out, Hawkins doubled down the line when Figueroa fired a throw to Vega who relayed home to nail Cipolloni at the plate. Hanks came on in relief but McGinley gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead.

UNCG answered as Lindsay Thomas delivered a clutch two out solo home run to left center to tie the game at 1-1. Thomas broke up a perfect game that was being thrown by Virginia’s senior pitcher Melanie Mitchell. 

Mitchell finished the game throwing 6.2 innings, allowing only three hits on two earned runs with 10 strikeouts. Hanks earns the victory in relief after tossing 3.1 innings, while allowing just two hits. Nicole Thomas started for the first time this season and threw 3.2 solid innings with four strikeouts.

Furman 4, Hartford 0

Dayton 4, Furman 3

Rock Hill, S.C. – Junior Lauren Collier hurled a one-hit shutout to lead Furman to a 4-0 victory over Hartford University and a split of its two games on Sunday at the Combat Invitational at Winthrop's Terry Field.   Dayton held on to top the Paladins 4-3 in game two.

GAME 1

Lauren Collier (4-2) limited the Hartford Hawks to a one-out single in the sixth inning and fanned three batters in a 4-0 victory on Sunday morning.

Stephanie Spain put Furman in front in the top of the third by scoring on a bases loaded passed ball after reaching base with a leadoff single.

In the fourth inning, Hannah Pace hammered a leadoff homer over the left field wall and Ambree Muller gave the Paladins back-to-back blasts with a towering homer to right-center field.  Furman pushed the margin to 4-0 as Nikki Legg beat out an infield single with two outs and scored on Stephanie Field's double over the leftfielder's head.

Field went 2-for-2 with a double and two walks while Muller went 2-for-3 against the Hawks.

Zuzana Kudernatschov (0-3) suffered the loss for Hartford (2-6) allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits in three-plus innings.  Amber Andrews recorded the lone hit for the Hawks and spoiled the no-hit bid with a single through the left side with one out in the sixth inning.

GAME 2

Dayton (4-9) pitchers fanned 13 Paladins and the Flyers pushed across an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning to down Furman 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

The Flyers' Jenna Lopes opened the seventh with a pinch-hit single and moved to second when a failed pick off attempt sailed into right field.  After advancing to third base on a sacrifice bunt, Lopes scampered home on Jordan Jennings' sacrifice fly to center field to put Dayton ahead.

Reliever Alysha Isaacson entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and fanned two Paladins in a perfect inning of work to shut the door and earn her first save of the season.

Starter Kayla English was credited with the win after holding Furman to three runs on six hits in six innings of work.  The rghthander fanned 11 batters in the process and improved to 3-5 in the circle.

Pinch hitter Krista Gustafson gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead in the second inning by lining a two-out, 3-2 pitch into right field with the bases loaded to plate two runs.  Natalie Mariano led off the third inning with a double and Jennings followed with an RBI single to increase the Dayton lead to 3-0.

After loading the bases with nobody out in the third inning and failing to score, Furman got on the board in the fifth as Natalie Clemmons reached on a bloop double down the right field line and scored on Sieara Bishop's double down the left field line.  In the sixth, Muller drew a leadoff walk and Taylor Jenkins followed with a two-run homer to left-center to knot the game at 3-3.

Freshman Meaghan Houston (3-3) took the loss for Furman allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits in seven innings.  The Fort Worth, Texas, product fanned six batters and issued two walks.

Clemmons collected two hits for Furman in the loss.

Furman, 8-6 on the season, opens its 2013 home schedule on Wednesday when it hosts Kennesaw State for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Pepsi Stadium.

Southern Miss 5, Appalachian State 3

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Appalachian State University softball fell to Southern Miss, 5-3, in the consolation game of the Florida State Renegade Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Southern Miss made its first threat of the contest when they loaded the bases on two walks and a single in the top of the second inning. Pinch hitter Katie Cleary hit a short single to left center field and brought in the Golden Eagles first run of the game.

USM extended its lead to 3-0 when Caroline Walker hit a single down the left field line to score two runs later in the second.

With two outs in the bottom half of the second, sophomore Ashley Seering hit a solo home run off the scoreboard to bring the Apps within two of Southern Miss (3-1). The home run marks Seering's first of the season and her fourth hit of the Renegade Classic.

Mackenzie Sher would double down the left field before coming around to score on a passed ball as the Golden Eagles took the 4-1 advantage in the top of the third inning.

The Mountaineers responded to the run in the bottom of the third as the sophomore duo of Dani Heichen and Cynthia Gomez combined for the run. Heichen led off with a single to left and would advance to third on two groundouts. Gomez dug in with two outs and singled through the left side of the field to score Heichen and cut the deficit to just two runs yet again.

Southern Miss tacked on one run in the top of the sixth on a well executed hit-and-run to take the 5-2 advantage over App State.

The Apps threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning as Gomez would walk and Lindsay Loudermilk would reach on a fielding error with only one out. Appalachian loaded the bases when it capitalized on the Golden Eagles' second error of the inning, bringing freshman Alex Sohl to the plate with only one out.

Sohl would reach first on a fielder's choice, allowing Gomez to cross the plate and score the Black and Gold's third run of the contest. Southern Miss retired the final batter of the inning to maintain a 5-3 lead heading into the top of the seventh and closed things out for the victory.

With the loss App State falls to 3-7 overall on the season, while Southern Miss improves to 10-14 overall on the season. Starting pitcher Alissa Schoelkopf (1-4) suffered the loss as she pitched two innings, while Shivaun Landeros pitched five innings for the Apps.

Gomez and Seering led App State as they both recorded one hit and one RBI, while Heichen added one hit and Sohl tacked on a RBI.

Loudermilk and Sarah Warnock led Appalachian at the Renegade classic as they each tallied six hits, while Loudermilk had five RBI and Warnock knocked in two. Seering recorded her first hits of the season as she had four on the weekend with two doubles, one home run and one RBI.

In three days at the Renegade Classic, the Mountaineers finished with a 2-3 record as they picked up a win over Troy, split with Southern Miss and dropped a pair to No. 25 Florida State on Saturday.

Appalachian State will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 9 when they travel to Cullowhee, N.C. for its first Southern Conference series of the season. First pitch of the double-header is slated for 1 p.m.
