Men's Outdoor Track and Field Southern Conference

Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina graduate student Josey Weaver and Appalachian State senior Jared Stalling have been named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over last weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Weaver won the 10,000m run at the Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic with an all-time best performance of 30:52.62.  This performance was also a meet record and broke the Catamount Athletic Complex record set by Paul Katam of UNCG at last year's 2012 SoCon Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet.  His time leads the SoCon.

Stalling continued his assault on the Appalachian State University men's track and field record books with another standout performance at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting track and field meet. He finished first in the shot put competition with a throw of 54' 3 1/4" (16.54m) and set a new personal record and took second in the discus with a toss of 173' 0" (52.73m). This throw was over 1.5' further than his previous best and just 6" shy of the ASU school record.  Stalling sits atop the SoCon in both events.

Western Carolina freshman Tayla Carter and sophomore Alisha Bradshaw have been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over last weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Cater was victorious in three events at the 2013 Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic Meet in Cullowhee, N.C.  Cater won the 100m with a time of 11.67, won the 200m with an all-time personal-best performance of 23.93 and anchored WCU's winning 4x 400m Relay team with a total time of 3:47.  Carter currently lead the SoCon in the 100m and 200m dashes and WCU’s 4 x400m Relay Team also leads the SoCon.

Bradshaw claimed three individual titles at the 2013 Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic Meet.  Bradshaw won the shot put with a throw of 43-4 1/4", the hammer with a toss of 162-9" and the discus with a toss of 148-3". The sophomore currently leads the SoCon in the discus and is ranked in the top-four in the other two events.

Men’s track honorable mention included: Rapheal Rojas, APP – Rojas took second in the 800m and set a new personal record of 1:51.73 at the High Point Vertklasse Meeting track and field meet.
