Furman?s Wearn Tabbed Women?s Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman senior Laura Wearn has been named the Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week for all competition March 20-26. The selection is made by the league office.

Wearn shot a final-round 67 Tuesday to record a second-place finish amongst 95 golfers at the Briar’s Creek Invitational in Johns Island, S.C. Her 5-under final round was a career best and included seven birdies.

For the tournament, she shot a 220 (73.3 stroke average), moving up eight spots on the final day after opening with rounds of 77 and 76 to sit 10th after two rounds of play.

As a team, Furman tied for 13th in the 18-team field, which included SoCon foes Chattanooga and College of Charleston and six squads ranked in the top 50 nationally.

The weekly award is Wearn’s second of the season, as she also took the first one of the year on Feb. 27.

Furman returns to action at the Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss., on April 5-7.

Also nominated: Haley Zagoria (Appalachian State), Louise Olsson (College of Charleston), Bailey Gray (Samford), Isabella Loza (Chattanooga) and Maria Kjelldorff (Western Carolina).
