GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s tennis team picked up another SoCon victory against Furman Tuesday, March 19 at the UNCG tennis courts.

The Blue and Gold started off strong winning two out of three doubles matches to earn the match point.

Freshman James Dougherty and sophomore Randy Phillips fell 8-4 at No. 1 to Andrew Mellow and Joel Cook.

At No. 3, Sophomore Cameron Smith and freshman Gaston Murray teamed up to win 8-5 against Luke Synn and Ben Horst.

Freshman Daniel Mack and junior Ahmet Sarioglu beat Alex Christ and Matt Browne at No. 2, 9-8 (7-5).

In singles play, Phillips led the Spartans as he took down Browne at No. 4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

Smith won in a quick 6-1, 6-3 match against Nate Collins at No.6, before Dougherty picked up an easy 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 against Cook.

At No. 5, Mack won 7-5 (6-4), 6-2, while Sarioglu fought in three sets to win 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10) against Mellow at No. 1 singles.

Murray finished out the match with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7 (7-2), 1-0 (9-7) victory to Christ at No. 3.
