UNCG ties for ninth
at Mountain View Collegiate
TUCSON, Ariz. – UNCG
women’s golf senior Courtney Taylor moved up 24 spots on the final day to
finish 10th overall in the 54-hole Mountain View Collegiate hosted by Missouri
State and Kanas State at the Mountain View Golf Club in Arizona. Taylor’s play
led the Spartans to a ninth-place team finish, moving up four spots in the
final 18 holes.
Taylor fired a career-best 3-under par 69 Saturday afternoon
to move up to 10th place overall after starting the day in 34th position. She
finished the three-round tournament with a 2-over par 218 (71-78-69) for her
top finish of the year. Her final-round score of 69 is the lowest round of her
collegiate career, surpassing a score of 70 set at the SunTrust Gator Invite
her freshman year. Her 10th-place finish is her top finish since
placing fifth overall at the Southern Conference championship her freshman
year.
UNCG moved up from 13th place in the standings at the
beginning of the day to finish in a tie for ninth overall in the 15-team
tournament. The Spartans fired a 298 Saturday to finish with a score of 907
(301-308-298), while Texas Tech won the event with a 54-hole score of 858 (280-293-285).
The final-round score of 298 is the second-lowest score of the season for UNCG,
trailing just an opening-round score of 291 at the Cardinal Cup (Sept. 17).
Sophomore Fanny Cnops finished 14th overall on the weekend
with a 3-over par 219 (71-72-76), as she finished with her highest score of the
weekend in round three. Freshman Sammie Buchanan also posted a 4-over par 76 in
the final round to finish in a tie for 61st with a 234 (78-80-76), while
sophomore Berglind Bjornsdottir placed 65th with a 236 (81-78-77).
The Spartans return to action March 29-31 as they co-host
the Bryan National with Wake Forest at the Bryan Park Country Club. The 54-hole
event will see 18 holes played each day throughout the weekend at the Triad
golf course.
College of Charleston
14th at Mountain View Collegiate
TUCSON, Ariz. – Led
again by senior Kathy Boehm, who moved up five spots on the individual
leaderboard to 14th, the College of Charleston women’s golf team finished tied
for 11th at the 2013 Mountain View Collegiate.
The Cougars shot their best team score of the tournament in
the final round at 299 and, paired with opening rounds of 310 and 300, the
Cougars shot a total of 909 (+45). Texas Tech led throughout the tournament and
finished at 6-under par.
Boehm shot rounds of 74-73-72 for a 3-over par 219 at the
Mountain View Golf Course.
After a second round of 82, freshman Mary Chandler Bryan was
the Cougars’ second-best golfer in the final round with a 1-over par 73.
Freshman Julia Neumann was the Cougars’ second best for the
tournament as she carded rounds of 77-72-75=224 (+8).
Up next, the Cougars host the Briar’s Creek Invitational at
the Briar’s Creek Club on Johns Island on March 25-26.
Chattanooga 12th
at SunTrust Gator Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. –
The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team is in 12th through 36 holes at the
SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational on Mark Bostick Golf Course at the
University of Florida. UTC shot 307 Saturday for a two-day total of 609, five
shot clear of San Diego State in 13th.
Freshman Isabella Loza had the low round for the Mocs with a
3-over par 73. It is her low round of the season with two birdies and 12 pars
on her card. She is tied for 38th, leading the team at 151.
Emily McLennan and Agathe Sauzon are just one stroke behind
Loza at 152. McLennan matched her opening-round 76 with another in round two.
Mette Kryger is next on the list at 154, while Marion Duvernay rounds out the
scoring at 163.
No. 3 Alabama shot 293 Saturday to move past No. 4 Oklahoma
into the lead at 579. The Sooners and tourney host No. 5 Florida are tied for
second, three strokes off the lead at 582. No. 21 Oklahoma State is three more
shots back in fourth at 585.
Oklahoma’s Chirapat Jao-Javanil shot a 68 in round two to
jump into first individually at 3-under par 137. She holds a three-shot
advantage over first round co-leader Portland Rosen of Virginia at even-par
(140). Hayley Davis (Baylor) is third at plus-1 (141).
It’s a shotgun start for the final round at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
Chattanooga is paired with Mississippi State and Florida International.
