SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford's Julia Paulson has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 4-10. Paulson went 2-0 in singles play and was 1-1 in doubles competition last week. Wofford picked up a pair of wins to move to 5-4 on the season as the Terriers topped Western Carolina (4-3) and Mercer (5-2).
Originally from Charlotte, N.C., Paulson posted a pair of straight-set wins at No. 3 singles. She opened the week with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Western Carolina's Sara Ruiz Pajares before claiming a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Mercer's Liza Klyachkin.
Paulson teamed with Lucy Schermerhorn at No. 2 doubles and went 1-1 last week. After falling to WCU's Stacia Kissell and Karen Jimenez, Wofford's duo defeated Mercer's Kealee Heffner and Klyachkin, 9-8.
Paulson is 5-3 in singles play this spring and 3-3 with Schermerhorn in doubles action.
Wofford returns to the courts Wednesday afternoon when the Terriers host Presbyterian.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston's Jenny Falcone, Furman's Lauren Kline, Georgia Southern's Jordana Klein, UNCG's Alex Whitehead, Chattanooga's Kaylene Chadwell and Western Carolina's Stacia Kissell.
