Appalachian State Men’s
and Women’s Track Finish JDL Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Appalachian State University women’s
track team capped off the JDL Invitational tonight in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Junior Breanna Alston picked up a second-place finish in the
200m dash, crossing the line at 24.59 and earned the fifth-place finish in the
60m dash, running a 7.60.
Sophomore Taryn Stern garnered a ninth-place finish in the
800m run, while Jenna Williamson and Meaghan McCauley both earned top-ten
finishes in the 5,000m run. Both Williamson and McCauley posted personal-bests as
Williamson crossed the line at 18:17.58, while McCauley ran an 18:21.48.
In field events, Cassie Crawford led the way with the Apps
only first-place finish on the afternoon in the pole vault. Crawford jumped
3.85m to take home the first-place overall finish, while Debra Domermuth earned
a sixth-place finish with a 3.40m jump.
Freshman Brianna Tate earned a fourth-place finish in the
shot put, while sophomore Jasmine Suydam also finished in the top ten in the
shot put and garnered a ten-place finish in the weight throw with a 16.11m
throw.
Tatyana Bryant rounded out the scoring for Appalachian in
field events as she posted a fifth place finish in the long jump with a 5.56m
jump.
App State’s 4x400m relay team would earn a second-place
finish as Stern, Alston, D’Shawrna McLucas, and Breahna Morrison crossed the
line at 3:52.99 in their first run as a team this season.
Appalachian State will be back in action on Feb. 9 when they
travel to Lynchburg, Va for the Liberty Quad. The meet is slated to start 4:30
p.m.

track and field team completed the JDL Invitational this afternoon in
Winston-Salem, N.C.
Senior Alex Taylor paced the Mountaineers as he competed in
the elite mile, placing in tenth with a 4:12.15 for his best time of the 2013
season.
Sophomore Raphael Rojas earned a sixth-place finish in the
800m run, while Josh Cox garnered a fourth-place finish in the 3,000m run with
a personal-best 8:39.44.
Brian Graves paced Appalachian in the distance run as he earned
a first-place with a personal-best 14:49.63, while Michael Ellis earned an
eighth-place finish, crossing the line at 15:22.61.
In field events, Jared Stalling placed third in the shot put
with a 15.67m toss and a sixth-place finish in the weight throw with a 17.47m
throw.
Zane Lail earned a top-ten finish in the weight throw, while
Alex Lomax finished tenth in the pole vault with a 4.45m jump.
Sophomore Henry Bustle garnered the fifth-place finish in
the long jump with a 6.88m jump.
The 4x400m relay team of Tyler Combs, Rojas, Trey Edgerton,
Stanley Broaden placed seventh, running a 3:25.11.
Appalachian State will be back in action on Feb. 9 when they
travel to Lynchburg, Va for the Liberty Quad. The meet is slated to start 4:30
p.m.
Samford Completes
Meyo Invitational
SOUTH BEND, Ind. ---- Samford wrapped up competition at
Notre Dame’s Meyo Invite Saturday, and after Nathan Hendershot set a school
record yesterday, Jonathon Bush added another on the meet’s final day.
The Birmingham native broke his own school record in the
400-meter dash, clocking in at 48.54 Saturday.
The old record of 48.85 was set in the preliminary round of last
season’s SoCon Championships. He is
still the only athlete in school history to run the 400-meter dash in under 49
seconds.
Freshman Brandon Hazouri came close to claiming another
school record Saturday but fell just short, finishing the mile run in
4:13.80. The time is good enough to put
him second all-time at Samford, less than a second shy of Andy Bishop’s 1998
record of 4:12.90. Lauren D’Alessio had
an impressive showing in the invitational section of the women’s 3,000 meters,
placing seventh in 9:35.80. In the open
section of the same event, freshman teammate Rachel Roberts also performed
well, finishing third in 9:54.46. In the
men’s open 3,000 meters, Layton Dorsett turned in his own top-ten finish,
running a personal-best 8:29.58 to place tenth.
The time also moves him to third all-time at Samford.
In the field events, Owen Wagoner tied for eighth in the
invitational men’s pole vault, clearing 16-0.75 (4.90m). In the men’s high jump, Bob Elliot II and
Tyler Kemp each turned in identical jumps of 6-7.5 (2.02m), but Elliot II
cleared it on his second attempt, putting him in eighth place overall, while
Kemp cleared it on his third try to move to 13th overall.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. ---- Day one is in the books at the Meyo
Invitational on the campus of Notre Dame and Nathan Hendershot, who broke a
school record in his last outing, can add another to his resume with a top-ten
finish in the 1,000 meters Friday.
Hendershot finished seventh in Friday’s 1,000-meter race,
running in 2:27.36. This breaks Paul von
Hermann’s previous school record of 2:29.36 set in 2002. In Hendershot’s last outing at the Auburn
Invitational, he broke another one of Von Hermann’s records by running 1:51.78
in the 800 meters. A transfer this
season from Clemson, Hendershot already has broken two school records in only
three outings as a Bulldog.
A pair of Samford distance runners set personal bests in the
5,000 meters, with Frances Bernard running 17:40.48 in the women’s race while
Luke Weishaar ran 15:39.52 in the men’ s race.
School record-holder Chenelle Terry placed second in Friday’s high jump,
clearing 5-8 (1.73m) on her first attempt but could not move past the school-record
height of 5-10 (1.78m).
Ryan Cook set a new personal best in the men’s high jump,
tying for third with a height of 16-2.75 (4.95m), which beats his previous best
of 16-1 (4.90m). In the women’s
competition, Ashley Cope and Laura Bedsole both earned top-ten finishes by
clearing identical heights of 11-7.75 (3.55m) to tie for ninth place. Owen Wagoner, one of Samford’s premiere pole
vaulters, ran in Friday’s 60-meter dash prelims and earned a personal-best time
of 6.92, finishing 14th.

Davidson’s Lorentsen
Breaks Davidson Men’s Track & Field Pole Vault Record
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Junior Michael Lorentsen shattered the
pole vault school record to win the event and lead the Davidson men’s track and
field team at the Hilton Garden Invitational Saturday at the JDL FastTrack.
Lorentsen cleared a height of 14 feet, 11 inches (4.55m),
breaking the old record of 14-3 1?4 (4.35m) set by Bryce Jones in 2011.
Demetrios Pagonis and Vincent Weir finished 1-2 in the
3000-meter run to lead the Wildcats on the track. Pagonis neared his own school
record, finishing in a Davidson top-10 best 8:21.52 to comfortably claim the
race, while Weir followed to claim second place by a comfortable margin in 8:32.54.
Xzavier Killings had another successful day, earning a place
on Davidson’s top-10 performers list in the high jump with a top leap of 6-2
(1.88m), and he also led the Wildcats in the 200-meter run in 23.49 seconds.
In the middle distance events, Wesley Laytham won the second
section of the 800-meter run in 1:57.67, while Sal del Giudice led Davidson in
the mile in 4:29.52.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Cyrus Bahram, Wesley Laytham,
Sal del Giudice and Charles Rappe won the fifth section of the event in
3:36.90.
Sophomore Whitner Chase paced the Davidson men’s track and
field team Friday during the first day of completion. Chase placed seventh in
the top section of the 5000-meter run in a personal best 15:13.67.
A pair of freshmen also has successful days, as Killings led
Davidson in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a race of 7.27 seconds, and
Charles Rappe was the top Wildcat in the 400-meter run, finishing the prelim in
53.25 seconds.
Davidson will next compete at the Clemson Invitational, Feb.
8-9, while Pagonis will head to the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston
University to compete in the 5000-meter run.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Gracie Gordon recorded a new program
record as the Davidson women’s track & field team finished out strong on
the second and final day of action at the Hilton Garden Invitational, hosted at
the JDL Fast Track Saturday.
Gordon recorded a jump of 5.83m (19-01.50) to take second
place overall and set a new school record. She took first in her flight of the
event.
Cara Wilck took fourth in her section of the mile, running a
5:39.22 to finish 48th overall. Teammate Grace Watt finished 10th in her
section of the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:23.69 for 23rd overall.
Ashlyn Gruber won her section, running a 2:26.00 for 32nd place.
Natalie Atabek and Erin Osment took eighth and 14th,
respectively in the first section of the 3000-meter run. Atabek ran a 10:13.46
for 13th place overall, while Osment finished 21st with a time of 10:49.18.
Manya Swick took first in the third section of the event, taking 24th overall
with a mark of 10:51.49 while Ali Cobb was 32nd in 11:09.17.
Ashley Paige ran a 30.50 in the 200-meter dash, taking
fourth in her section.
Watt and Gruber then combined with Kate Kostecky and Olivia
Menden to win the seventh section of the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet
finished in a time of 4:14.45, taking 22nd overall.
Chattanoga’s Olsen,
Reese Set PRs at MTSU Blue Raider Invitational
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- Junior Blake Olsen (Pleasantview, Tenn.)
and sophomore Ambria Reese (Memphis, Tenn.) led four University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga runners to Personal Records at the Middle Tennessee Blue Raider
Invitational Saturday at the Murphy
Center.
Olsen ran a 53.54 in the 400m dash, topping his best time by
0.19 seconds. Reese ran a 2:25.51 in the women’s 800m run, 1.76 seconds better
than her top time set last year. Freshman Geoff Nelson (Brentwood, Tenn.) ran a
personal best in the men’s 200m dash, surpassing his previous best set in
December at the Christmas Invitational. Freshman Rebecca Greenwall posted a PR
in the women’s 800m run with a time of 2:21.70, nearly four seconds better than
her time at the Christmas Invitational.
Freshman Kiaana Howard (Nashville, Tenn.) placed ninth in
the women’s 400m with a time of 1:02.78 with Jessica Philpott placing 12th with
a time of 1:03.86, her first time competing in the shorter race.
Sophomore Patrick O’Brien (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led four
Chattanooga runners in the men’s 800m run with a time of 2:00.75 followed by
junior John Gilpin (Nashville, Tenn.) in 10th with a time of 2:02.62. Freshman
DeQuantez Sandifer (Nashville, Tenn.) placed 11th in the event with a time
of2:03.59 while freshman Tosin Ayotunde (Ooltewah, Tenn.) was 15th overall with
a time of 2:06.98.
In the Mile Run, freshman Matthew Marshall (Signal Mountain,
Tenn.) ran the event in a time of 4:30.30 followed by classmate Taylor Hawk
(Dandridge, Tenn.) with a time of 4:38.60. Freshman Zack Darby (Knoxville,
Tenn.) was eighth in the men’s 3000 meter run with a time of 9:10.03 while
classmate Iman Isang (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was fifth in the men’s 55m Hurdle
finals with a time of 8.14.
The Mocs return to action next weekend at the MTSU Valentine
Invitational at the Murphy Center.
Catamounts Wrap Up
Hilton Invitational
Western Carolina track & field concluded the Hilton
Garden Invitational Saturday, wrapping up the two-day meet at the location of
the 2013 Southern Conference Indoor Championships, the JDL Fast Track in
Winston-Salem.
As part of Head Coach Danny Williamson’s strategy of putting
athletes in different than normal events this weekend in preparation for the
SoCon Championships, Jocelyn Keen ran the mile for the first time this season.
Keen fared well, notching a sixth place finish. Keen ran a 5:04.79, the fastest
WCU time of the season in the event.
Freshman Tayla Carter – who tied the WCU 60m dash record a
week ago – bested her own SoCon-leading time in the 200m dash as she ran a
24.70. Carter’s time is just off the Western Carolina 200m record, a 24.51 time
from Raquel Ramseur that was set in 2006. Teammate Brittany Diggs crossed the
line in 25.61, finishing in eleventh.
Western Carolina’s men also fared well in the 200m dash
picking up two top-six finishes. The reigning Southern Conference Track Athlete
of the Week – Brandon Hairston – placed fourth overall as the third best
collegiate finisher, running a 22.36. Teammate Jerry Wickerson finished sixth
with his time of 22.49.
In the men’s mile, senior Garrett West earned tenth place,
crossing the stripe in 4:22.17. Michael Cornwell placed 20th with his time of
4:26.46.
In the women’s 3000m run, senior Mara Smith finished just
outside of the top 10 placing eleventh overall with her time of 10:18.99. On the men’s side, Chase Fisher placed 20th
in 8:57.21.
Sophomore Kyle Bernier earned a top-5 finish in the men’s
heptathlon. Bernier tallied 3776 points to finish fifth.
The women’s 4x400-meter relay team comprised of Shiniqua
Pryor, Achsah Brice, Kiyonna Morgan and Michaela Williams finished fifth in
3:55.65.
A day after setting the WCU weight throw record, Alisha
Bradshaw recorded a 13.52m throw in the shot put to earn second place. Freshman
Jasmin Brown joined Bradshaw in the top-10 placing eighth (12.64m). In the
men’s event, freshman Jared Johnson threw a personal record 14.68m to finish
eighth.
Keith Leonard cleared a season-high 4.60m (eighth) in the
pole vault with teammate Justin Tripplett placing tenth (4.45m).
Next weekend, the Purple and Gold take the short trip down
to Clemson, S.C., for the Tiger Paw Invitational, beginning Friday and going
through Saturday.
The Western Carolina track & field teams began
competition in the Hilton Invitational at the JDL Fast Track, Friday. The
Catamounts tallied a win and nine top 10 finishes to go along with Alisha
Bradshaw’s record-setting performance.
In the women’s weight throw, Bradshaw threw a 16.91m toss on
her second attempt to best Valerie Metz’s 16.64m throw back in 2000. The
sophomore’s previous best was a 15.89m throw in the first meet of the season.
Bradshaw earned third place overall in the event. Senior Jamie Van Pelt also
threw a personal record on the men’s side as the Tampa, Fla., native tossed a
17.45m on his first throw to earn seventh place.
Much of Friday was consumed by the multi-events. Western
Carolina’s Michaela Birek placed fifth overall in the event with 3258 points,
receiving a boost for her first place finish in the 800m run (2:27.62). On the
men’s side in the heptathlon, Kyle Bernier will complete the events tomorrow.
Several track events were run today including the women’s
60-meter dash. No Catamount qualified for the finals in the event, but Janise
Robinson ran the fourteenth fastest time crossing the line in 7.79, a
season-best for the junior.
In the women’s 400-meter dash, sophomore Genevieve Emrick -
the SoCon leader in the event – placed second in her heat to finish third
overall. Emrick ran just off her season-best time, finishing in 57.03.
Teammates Corina Archie-McMillan (59.09) and Kendra Douglas (59.33) each won
their respective heats and placed fourteenth and fifteenth overall.
On the men’s side in the 400m event, WCU picked up its first
win of the day. Junior Aaron Harris led the crowded, 87-man field with his time
of 49.36. The win is the first for Harris since earning the SoCon 400m title at
the outdoor championships last season.
In the women’s triple jump, junior Brittany Powell notched a
personal record for the second consecutive week. The Alpharetta, Ga., native
threw a long of 11.61m to place eighth, besting her toss of 11.47m last week in
the McCravy Memorial.
The women’s pole vault featured three Catamounts in the top
10 with Ashley Wala leading the way in third place. Wala cleared a season best
3.55m – just shy of her career high 3.60m. Behind Wala were Korie Bennett
(3.35m-9th) and Kayla Heineike (3.25m-10th).
The Catamounts conclude the Hilton Invitational tomorrow as
the heats for the 60m hurdles begin the day on the track at 10:00 a.m. as the
women's shot put, men's high jump and the women's long jump take place on the
field. The final event of the day is the 4x400-meter relay at 7:10 p.m.
Four School Records
Fall as Wofford Men’s and Women’s Track and field Complete Hilton Garden
Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N. C. – The men’s and women’s track and field
teams saw four school records fall at the two-day Hilton Garden Invitational
Friday and Saturday.
Alyssa Burkert set the school record in the 400m with a time
of 1:00.62 and finished in 31st place.
She also finished in third place in the 800m with a time of 2:17.43, a
second and half off the second record.
Sam Hughes ran a new school record in the 5,000m with a time of 18:20.79
good enough for fifth place. Brandon
Sloan broke the school record in the long jump with a distance of 4.47m and
finished in 38th place. Nicole Klasnic
set a new school record in the mile run with a time of 5:13.32 to place her in
17th place. Katie Kessler took 5th in
the 800m with a time of 2:18.39. Carlly
Egan ran a personal best in the 3,000m with a time of 11:17.11 to finish in
38th place. Alissa Williams finished in
22nd place in the 3,000m with a time of 10:50. 65.
On the men’s side, Patrick Cummings just missed the school
record by .11 of a second in the 800m as he finished with a time of 1:59.91 in 18th
place. Ryan Doyle finished 17th in the
5,000m with a time of 15:44.45. Tevin
Johnson placed in the top 25 in two events, the long jump with a distance of
6.25m in 24th place and the triple jump with a distance of 12.55m in 25th
place.
The Terriers will return to the track with the Tiger Paw
Invitational on February 8.
Elon’s Kirschling
Sets High Jump Mark at Gene Anderson Invitational
CHAPEL HILL, N.C – Freshman Megan Kirschling broke her own
school record in the high jump as the Elon women’s track and field team
competed at the Gene Anderson Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 2. Kirschling set
the new record after clearing the bar at 5’10” (1.78m) inside the Eddie Smith
Fieldhouse.
Kirschling had previously set the program record in the
event with a cleared height of 5’8” (1.73m) in the first two collegiate meets
of her career. She reached the mark at the Liberty Kickoff on Dec. 1, and again
at the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 19, winning the title at both meets.
Kirschling cleared the bar on her first four attempts of the
day while fouling only once. She needed two attempts to establish her new
personal record at 5’10” with Maryland’s Amina Smith clearing the same height.
Smith was declared the winner after clearing the bar on her only attempt, with
Kirschling finishing as the runner-up.
The women’s 4x400 relay “A” team of Bria Bell, Veronica
Luedke, Jennifer Pash and Louise Prevoteau won the title with a time of
4:00.28.
In throws, Kimberlyn Holt set a new personal best in the
weight throw with a toss of 50’3.5” (15.33m) on her final attempt. Teammate
Charlise Morgan had a mark of 50’0” (15.24m) to finish in seventh overall, one
spot behind Holt. Morgan also had a toss of 45’0.25” (13.72m) in the shot put
to finish fifth.
The Elon distance team dominated the one-mile run with five
runners placing in the top-10. Tereza Novotna(5:03.60) and Allyson Oram
(5:06.27) crossed the line in two and three positions, respectively. Emily
Tryon(5:14.01) and Jenny Gallagher (5:15.29) claimed the fifth and sixth spots
with Caroline McCaslin (5:18.29, 9th) rounding out maroon and gold in the
top-10.
Ellie Taff finished third in the 800-meter run after
crossing the line with a time and new personal-record of 2:19.99. Brennan
McDavid also competed for the Phoenix and ran a time of 2:24.66 for a ninth
place standing.
Prevoteau finished fourth in the long jump, hitting a mark
of 18’4.25” (5.59m). Marie Borowycz had a season-best mark of 17’0.75” for a
seventh place standing. Prevoteau also broke into the top-five on the program’s
all-time performance list in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.12 in the
finals.
Borowycz claimed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of
35’8.50” (10.88m). Teammate Janelle McNeil’s mark of 35’6.50” (10.83m) placed
her sixth overall.
Elon had three runners claim spots in the top-10 of the
400-meter dash, with Bell finishing as the runner-up with a time of 57.74. Luedke
clocked in at 58.99 to finish fourth and Pash running a time of 1:01.10 to
place ninth.
Bell was also the Phoenix’s top finisher in the 200-meter
dash, clocking in with a time of 25.90 and fifth overall. Kayleigh Birks was
not far behind with a time of 26.33 and a sixth place finish.
Elon will return to competition by traveling to the Liberty
Quad next weekend, Feb. 8-9, in Lynchburg, Va.
College of Charleston
Competes at Gene Anderson Invitational
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The College of Charleston women’s track
& field team had four top-five performances and six top-10 marks, as they
competed at the Gene Anderson Invitational at the Eddie Smith Field House on
the campus of North Carolina Saturday.
Sophomore Hayley McMahon finished in second-place in the
800-meter run in a time of 2:19.07. McMahon also raced the mile, where she finished
fourth, crossing the finish line in 5:07.21. McMahon’s mile time is the eighth
fastest time in school history and her 800 is the 10th fastest in the history
of the program.
Freshman Roshani Glover advanced through to finals of the
triple jump and finished in third-place with a best jump of 11.42 meters. The
mark is tied for sixth best in school history.
Also in the field events, senior Chelsea Taylor, competing
in her first meet in nearly a year, finished third in the pole vault with a
jump of 3.35 meters, which tied the 10th best performance in school history.
In the 3,000-meter run sophomore Danielle Sams finished 10th
in 10:55.46 and in the shot put sophomore Tiffany Sisk was seventh with a throw
of 13.04 meters.
CofC head coach Amy Seago said the team is making progress,
but there is still work to be done to get to where they want to be for the
Southern Conference Indoor Championship Feb. 23-24 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Cougars will have one more meet before the SoCon
Championship. They will compete Feb. 8-9 at the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted
by Clemson.
UNCG Track and Field
Concludes Hilton Garden Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNCG men's track and field team
concluded play at the Hilton Garden Invitational Saturday at the JDL Fast Track
in Winston-Salem. The two-day event marked the second time this indoor season
that UNCG has run at the JDL Fast Track.
Junior Paul Chelimo (Chebiemit, Kenya/Chebiemit Boys School)
made his indoor debut in the Elite Mile Run which included both the top
collegiate runners and professional runners. Chelimo placed seventh in the
11-man race and was the second fastest time of a collegiate runner, turning in
a time of 4:09.41. The top three finishers in the Elite race were all under the
four-minute time, a first in the state of North Carolina.
Junior Abraham Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipkabus) won his heat
in the mile-run (section three), posting a personal-best time of 4:21.63.
Freshman Josh Crawford (Fayetteville, N.C./South View) ran his first mile event
and placed sixth with a time of 4:26.03.
The Spartans posted a third-place finish in the distance
medley relay with a time of 10:36.52, trailing Radford's top time of 10:16.31.
Running for UNCG were junior Tyron Alston (Mebane, N.C./Eastern Alamance), Paul
Katam (Eldoret, Kenya/Sacho), John Elwood (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford)
and Taylor Day (Cornelius, N.C./Hopewell).
The Spartans return to action next weekend as a majority of
the team will travel to the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational. Chelimo and Katam
will head to Seattle, Wash., to take part in the prestigious Flotrack Husky
Classic.
The Citadel Track and
Field Completes Action at Hilton Garden Invitational
Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Citadel track and field teams
finished up its third indoor meet of the season on Saturday as the Bulldogs got
their first run on the brand new JDL Fast Track in the Hilton Garden
Invitational. The Bulldogs will trek back to the same site for the Southern
Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24.
The women's 4x400 team of Micah Wessinger, Danielle
Williams, Tanisha Bethel and Taylor Viana posted a season-best relay time of
3:59.98 to earn third place in their section.
Wessinger continued her impressive weekend by running a
personal-best in the 400 with a time of 60.25. The senior captain also clocked
in at 2:17 in the 800, while Daniele McKee finished closely behind with a time
of 2:21 in the same event.
After breaking the freshman 400 record in her first
collegiate track meet, Williams improved on the time, posting a 59.37 to move
into second place in Citadel history in the event.
Nicole Levermann, who is preparing to represent The Citadel
in the conference multi-events, cleared the bar in the high jump at a
season-best 5'4.25".
Geno Porter logged his second consecutive heave of over
50-feet to take fifth place in his flight. The redshirt sophomore threw the
35lb. weight 50'6.75" last week at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational to
earn the SoCon track and field athlete of the week award.

while freshman Darius Johnson improved his 60 hurdle time of 8.85 to move into
eighth place all-time.
The Bulldogs will head to Clemson, S.C., next weekend to
compete in the Tiger Paw Invitational.

Hilton Garden Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
The Georgia Southern Track and Field team continued yesterday’s trend and set
four more personal bests at the second and last day of the Hilton Garden
Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. Freshmen Alyssa
Felton and Taylor Johnson improved their records for two events over the past
two days.
After setting a new
personal best in the 60m Dash yesterday, Felton improved her Long Jump by 17
centimeters, leaping for 5.69m, good for a fourth place finish. Taylor Johnson
improved her Shot Pup mark to 9.32m as well as her High Jump mark to 1.42m,
improving her old best by 20 centimeters.
Freshman Keyanna
Harris also continued to establish herself in the High Jump, finishing 12th with
a new personal best of 1.62m.
Freshman Jami Joyner
ran her fastest mile ever, taking almost seven minutes off her old time.
Next up for the Eagles
is the Samford Multi and Invitational at Samford University next weekend on
Feb. 8 and 9.
