Furman?s Wearn Named Women?s Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman senior Laura Wearn has been named the first Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week for the spring season. The selection is made by the league office and includes all competition through Feb. 26.

Wearn finished tied for third in a 64-player field in Furman’s first spring event, the Florida State Match-Up Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. Wearn helped the Paladins to a fifth-place finish of the 12 teams at the event, which was contested at the Southwood Golf Club on Feb. 15-17.

The Charlotte, N.C., native shot an even-par 216, posting rounds of 69, 71 and 76 for a 72.0 stroke average. The tournament field included six of the top 50 teams in the nation and 12 of the top 70 individuals.

Furman returns to action March 8-10 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Also nominated: Mimi Burke (Appalachian State), Julia Neumann (College of Charleston), Eraina Manor (The Citadel), Sunna Vidisdottir (Elon), Fanny Cnops (UNCG), Mette Kryger (Chattanooga) and Maria Kjelldorff (Western Carolina).
