Hyman, Curtis Nab Weekly Baseball Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford outfielder Josh Hyman has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week and Western Carolina left-hander Adam Curtis has been named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week for all games Feb. 18-24. The selections are made by the league office.

Hyman hit a league-best .526 for the week, pounding out 10 hits in five games for the Terriers. Seven of Hyman’s hits went for extra bases as the junior had five doubles, a triple and a home run. He slugged 1.053 on the week and had six RBI and nine runs scored. For the week, he had three multi-hit games and scored in all five contests, including a pair of three-run games.

After drawing two walks and stealing a base in Wofford’s 7-4 win over Niagara on Tuesday, Hyman went 5-for-5 with three runs and three RBI in the Terriers’ 12-10 loss at East Tennessee State the following day. The Woodruff, S.C., native hit for the cycle in the contest, becoming the first Terrier to do so since the 2010 season.

In a three-game series against Pittsburgh over the weekend, Hyman was 5-for-11 with four doubles and three RBI. He had a pair of hits each in Saturday’s series opener and the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader. He was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in the Terriers’ 3-2 win in the middle game of the series.

Wofford (4-3) returns to action Wednesday when it will take on Presbyterian in Forest City, N.C., at 6 p.m.

Curtis struck out a career-best eight batters with just one walk to pick up the victory in Western Carolina’s 7-2 win over Wake Forest on Wednesday. The senior southpaw went six innings, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk as the Catamounts knocked off the ACC’s Demon Deacons in Cullowhee, N.C. The Arden, N.C., native retired the first five Wake Forest batters of the game as WCU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and never trailed.

Western Carolina (3-4) hosts Longwood for a two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday with 4 p.m. starts for both games.
