Chattanooga finishes
ninth at Central District Invitational
PARRISH, Fla. –
The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team moved up one spot Tuesday, finishing
ninth at the Central District Invitational. UTC passed Minnesota over the final
18 holes and got within one stroke of Augusta State, ending up with a 54-hole
total of 917.
The Mocs’ 298 is their third-best total of 2012-13. It is
second-lowest final round tally behind the 294 (+6) that captured the Lady
Paladin Invitational ending the fall slate.
Mette Kryger led the team, tying for 20th with a season-low
227 (+10) after her 76 Tuesday. Marion Duvernay bounced back from a tough first
day with a 71 (-1) to card 229 for her 54 holes, tying for 27th.
UTC’s top four finishers ended up within four strokes of
each other. Emily McLennan was next at 230, tying for 31st, while Jordan Britt
wound up tied for 36th at 231. Porsche Campbell rounded out the team scoring
with a 242.
SMU stormed back from a seven-shot deficit to win the event.
The Mustangs’ 293 gave them an 888 total, two shots better than No. 13
Vanderbilt (890) and seven clear of No. 17 Michigan State. The duo of Caroline
Powers and Natalie Wille shared medalist honors at 1-under par 215.
Isabella Loza and Agathe Sauzon played as individuals. Loza
posted the top result by a Chattanooga student-athlete, tying for 16th at 226.
Sauzon made her debut for the Mocs as a January enrollee, carding 235 for her
first 54 collegiate holes.
UTC is off until March 8-10 and its annual visit to the JMU
Eagle Landing Invitational at Eagle Landing Golf Club in Orange Park, Fla. The
Mocs have won the three-day, 54-hole event twice (2009, 2011).
The Citadel finishes
seventh at SCAD Invitational
SAVANNAH, Ga. –
Citadel freshman Eraina Manor opened the spring golf season with a two-day
score of 158 (+14) and tied for 10th at the Savannah College of Art &
Design Invitational, which took place at The Club of Savannah Harbor's par-72,
5,900-yard course.
The Bulldogs posted a score of 649 (341-328, +93) as host
Savannah College of Art & Design captured the tournament crown with a score
of 615, three shots better than Lander. Lee University rounded out the top
three finishers with a 622 over the two-day event.
Manor (81-77=158), who was the only Bulldog to post a round
in the 70s, became just the fifth golfer in program history to finish in the
top 10 of a tournament. She was nine shots better than teammate Kellie Anderson,
who shot a 23-over 167 (85-82) for the tournament.
Other Citadel scorecards included TaKima Butler (85-86=171),
who placed 44th, Hollie Salvo (91-83=174) and Amelia Goodwin (90-96=186).
Top individual honors went to Lander's Teresa Hernani who
shot a 145 (+1) for the tournament, including a final round 74. Second place
went to Courtney Shelton (Lee) with a 147 (73-74, +1) and rounding out the top
three was Sofia Molinaro (SCAD) who fired a 148 (75-73, +4).
