Samford's Lewis Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Kristin Lewis has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played February 11-17.  Lewis went 2-0 in singles play and was 1-0 at No. 1 doubles for the Bulldogs last week.  Samford went 1-1 with a 4-1 victory over Jacksonville State before falling at Troy, 5-2.

Competing at the top singles spot, Lewis began the week with a straight-sets win over Jacksonville State's Raisa Guasti (6-0, 6-0). The Odenville, Ala., native claimed a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Troy's Karoline Grymel at No. 1 singles. 

Lewis also helped the Bulldogs pick up a win at No. 1 doubles against Troy.  Paired with Stephanie N'tcha, Samford's top tandem beat Grymel and Anja Cosovic, 8-6.

Samford returns to the courts Wednesday, when the Bulldogs host UAB at 1:00 p.m.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell, College of Charleston's Samantha Maddox, Elon's Frida Jansaker, UNCG's Stephanie Falcon and Chattanooga's Kelsey Coots.
