SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Western Carolina's Trey Sumler has been named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for all games played February 5-11.  Sumler averaged 19.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Catamounts went 2-1 last week.  After falling at Davidson (73-59), WCU won at Georgia Southern (71-62) before holding off Wofford (57-56) at home.

The junior opened the week with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists at Davidson.  He followed that performance with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting at Georgia Southern. 

In WCU's final game of the week, Sumler scored a game-high 26 points, including the game-winning jumper with 2.3 seconds left against the Terriers.  The Rocky Mount, N.C., native scored 14 of WCU's final 16 points, including the Catamounts' final seven.  He shot 40 percent (6-of-15) from 3-point range, 75 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line and averaged 2.3 steals in three games.

Sumler is second in the Southern Conference with 18.0 points per game.  He leads the league in steals (2.2 spg) and ranks fifth in assists (3.8 apg).

The Catamounts (10-15, 7-6 SoCon) return to action Thursday when Western Carolina visits UNCG (7-16, 5-7 SoCon).
