SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga's Manuel Barroetavena has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played through February 10.  Barroetavena has opened the year with seven straight singles wins as the Mocs are off to a 5-2 start.

A native of Buenos Aries, Argentina, Barroetavena opened the year with four consecutive wins at the No. 3 singles position.  He posted straight-set wins over Paul Schuette of Georgia Tech and Artem Tarasov of Tennessee Tech before pulling out a three-set victory (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) over Belmont's Fernando Mussolini. 

Barroetavena moved up to the top singles spot against North Alabama and topped UNA's Matt Feury, 6-0, 6-3.  The senior picked up two wins at No. 2 singles over the weekend with victories over Austin Peay's Jasmin Ademovic (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) and Murray State's Tyler Jeffers (6-1, 6-2).

He has either clinched the match point for the Mocs, or been the first to finish a singles match in each of UTC's seven matches.

Barroetavana has paired with Jackson Tresnan in doubles play.  The duo has opened the year 4-1, including a 3-0 mark at No. 2 doubles.

The Mocs return to the courts Saturday (Feb. 16) when they host Lee University.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Steve Lake, College of Charleston's Sebastian Lopez, The Citadel's David Orces, Davidson's Joe Schafer, Elon's Stefan Fortmann, Furman's Alex Christ, Georgia Southern's Rayane Ejouad, UNCG's James Dougherty and Samford's Zac Dunkle.
