SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Lucy Mason, a women’s basketball player at UNCG, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Dec. 4, the league office announced Wednesday.
Mason, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., double majors in African-American studies and economics and currently holds a 3.92 GPA.
The sophomore guard averaged 13.5 points per game for the Spartans last week, including a 17-point contest in UNCG’s 81-76 victory over High Point. Mason shot 50 percent from behind the arc and hit 10-of-11 attempts from the free-throw line in two games. Mason is averaging 13.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game for the Spartans this season.
Also nominated for Student-Athlete of the Week were Appalachian State women’s basketball player Maryah Sydnor, Citadel men’s basketball player Ashton Moore, Davidson women’s basketball player Lillian McCabe, Furman football player Tanner Skogen and Chattanooga women’s basketball player Taylor Hall.
